'Skelewu skelewu' i was dreaming that i was in the dance club!
It was my phone actually ringing.
I vent had d time to change this ring tone.
I always say i'l do it but i keep forgetting.
Hello: "Morning Dr, we have a patient in mat ward" the voice said.
I replied ok, i am coming.
Wondering why these patients keeps coming at night,
Also grumbling cos i wanted to sleep more!
Getting to the ward,
I asked about the patient, the nurse told me what she had done and the patients presenting complain.
I examined the patient ( she was very pale+++++, dehydrated, loose skin- evidence of weight loss, oral thrust, foul smelling mucopurulent vagina discharge.)
She said she had a surgery 3weeks back for the delivery of a healthy baby boy.
Her first living child out of 5 pregnancies.
I called my boss to come and evaluate the patient cos we may have to refer her.
He enters the room,
The 1st thing he say is, hmmmm is she an XYZ patient?
I replied, "i dont knw, she said she doesnt knw either but she said she isnt"
He does his examination and suggested we transfuse her with blood before we refer her.
I said ok, then got things to set a line.
She keeps shaking!
I yelled, madam abeg stay still mak i no prick my self.
She said ok.
I try setting it again!
And wow!
The green cannula goes straight into my skin! Passing through my gloves!
I screamed Jesus!
The nurse and other dr asked what is it dr!
I said, i pricked myself!
Haaaa Lord why me!
My life flashed in front of me!
I rushed to the lab!
Faith! Faith! Pls come and check the new patient in mat ward,
Help me confirm her HIV status,
I tink she is positive.
Ok dr, i will do it later!
Nooooooooo
I need it now!
She leaves for the ward!
I looked at the prick site, pressed it, saw blood!
Tears starts rolling down my cheek!
D prick was deep!

While thinking of what to do?

Anyway, the end was that, the lab attendant tested a wrong patient and so d needle that pricked the dr was a HIV neg needle.
