Now I understand why the final interview was postponed. .it was supposed to take place in Port - Gentil on the 4th and 5th of Decemberrespectivrly. We received emails where we were asked to fill a form and a passport photo, we did that and when those days arrived, nothing happened. The reason was then because other people from gabon, like you were still waiting. .that makes sense to me now.
I studied in south - africa.

No it doesn't actually make sense cause all over the world, no BHE has happened. I'm starting to think it is because of the low oil prices. Yet when I contact my recruiter, she says the price of oil has nothing to do with it. Don't you have a Baker Hughes office icon your country where you can enquire a about it? Did you also try contacting the lady who requested your particulars?

I said that because it seems that nationals of same country should attend the BHE at the same time...we were supposed to attend the BHE on the 4th and 5th of December in gabon..but nothing occured...and my country man living in the US said that he jusr did his english test on the 14th if December....I might be wrong

Not necessarily; normally by the deadline they take whoever they have and forward the rest to the next BHE. They have deadlines to meet and priorities to fulfill, so they can't wait indefinitely.

Hi,

I am Abedin from Las Vegas,USA. I am new in this forum. Whatever, I applied for BH Graduate Field Engineer 2015 position in USA on October, 2014. I passed the video interview last month, and on November 23 received emails from Baker Hughes saying that to wait for the BHE test. But I just checked my status in the online application system, it is showing 'Application declined by Baker Hughes'. Also the job status is showing as Inactive. Guys, do anyone have any idea what's going on? please share. Thanks

When did you receive the email saying you should wait for the BHE? Where are you from originally? And what country did you apply for?

I received this email on November 23. I am from India. I applied for North America.

Dear Abedin:

Congratulations, you have successfully passed the initial interview for the 2015 Graduate Field Engineer - 1423540 position. At this time you are eligible but not guaranteed an opportunity to attend a Baker Hughes Experience. We appreciate your patience as we prepare for these unique events.

If you are extended an invite to a Baker Hughes Experience, it will be sent to the e-mail address within your profile at www.bakerhughes.com/graduate.

Thank you for your interest in Baker Hughes.

As you are originally from India, I think you should have applied for Field Engineer India 2015
..You are being considered for the country Iin which you are eligible to work without restriction. Which where no work permit or visa will required to you.

Same thing here. Only difference is when I check on my cellphone it says "Completed", computer "Declined". I don't think it's anything to worry about on account of it being "Inactive". Do you have American citizenship?

Lol, why you answering for the guy. If he really doesn't have citizenship, then he is wasting his time. But since he lives in the US, he probably has a green card which permits him to work there. NB: You don't have to be a citizen, just a long as you have the right papers to work there.

Hello everyone.

Is the consensus here that "Interview in Progress" is not-so-good? I applied for (2) 2015 positions within the US and only interviewed for one via webcam. It's crazy how the other position says the same thing when I've not been contacted.

I applied Sept 28 and received the e-mail for a video chat on Nov. 18. Still awaiting a response for the next step though both applications are under review.

Are you American? I'm not too sure how valid "Interview In Progress" is. Have you tried contacting BH office where you are?

Interview in progress or evaluation in progress, just means that your file is still being considered for the job.

As requested by a Nairaland, below is a composition of what to expect from any forthcoming BHEs:

Day 1: Began in the morning at 06:00. It is imperative you are on time because your every move is being watched and recorded. Time keeping is a very important part of business and isn't negotiable. I was the last to arrive, but before 06:00 so I was safe. We were subsequently led into a conference room where the recruiters (around 6) all introduced themselves. We were then instructed to stand up and introduce ourselves with a twist - take the first letter of your name and construct an adjective to describe yourself. Here, your ability to think on the spot is being tested. I went first which was a wise decision because subsequent attendees had to recite the previous peoples' names and adjectives. #Phew. After this exercise, we were split into 2 groups - group 1 stayed in the conference room and we're treated to a lecture on Baker Hughes and oil service companies in general. My group, the second, were lead to another room were several exercises were waiting for us. Search glassdoor for ph test, resistor test & mechanical assembly test. I think I might be forgetting one but am not too sure.

The mechanical assembly tests were REALLY challenging. Nothing can prepare you for them unless you are accustomed to deciphering blue prints. Hint: use numbers on the parts to assemble them quickly. Remember you are being timed. The easiest for me was the resistor test. Also keep in mind, safety is of paramount importance. Before beginning any exercise, put on your gloves and eye protection. Reading the manuals is also super important even if you don't understand what to do.

You will note that you are always being watched and your actions recorded. Don't act like you have no idea what is going on, TRY! After the tests, every single one in my group had a one-on-one interview with two recruiters. The usual, "Tell me about yourself,", "Why Baker Hughes", "Are you prepared to travel a lot" type of questions you can find on glassdoor and other similar sites.

Once this was over we changed places with group 1. During the lecture, make sure to ask as many questions as possible and look engaged. They might not look like they are constantly watching you but trust me, they probably already have their favorites by now. After the lecture and a hundred questions later, we had a tea break. Mingle with people and make sure you don't isolate yourself, introverted people are not desirable and they will try to weed them out seamlessly! Don't stick to your country men, MINGLE! Approach recruiters and ask them about their product lines. But also remember that you need to listen as well. Don't interrupt cause you will come across as overbearing which is also a highly undesirable trait.

In the afternoon, we were split into 3 new groups and instructed to choose a rig to design from the projection and justify why we chose that design. We were given BH currency and a shop with materials was "opened" and closed within 5 mins. This is documented extensively in last year's BH thread so read it there. Glassdoor also has info.

Later in the day, we were split into three new groups and had to come up with a presentation to attract students keen on joining Baker Hughes. Speak lucidly and give everyone a chance to talk. Remember antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.

The last event was a debate. Several options were displayed on the board and each candidate had to choose a point in a scenario and defend themselves. Speak up and don't blend into the background or you will be picked on. Once they begin drawing your attention cause of your silence, be cognisant of the fact you are doing something very wrong. You don't even have to be right, they are testing your train of thought. Whenever you can, reference Baker Hughes Core Values - they love that stuff.

We were called the following Friday (3 days later) and told if we got the job or not. Pay is initially not as much as you'd think. I won't say what, cause it's confidential. Really high pay goes to those with international contracts. So just cross your fingers and go with the flow!

Really insightful. Thanks for this and all the best in your new company.
Cheers!!

Hi Guys,

Just to confirm, my birth country is India. But I have completed my MS in Civil Engineering in Las Vegas, USA. I have neither a green card nor a citizenship. But I do have work permit which is enough to be employed in any US company. However, my concern was that after passing the video interview, my application got declined by BH, while I was actually waiting for BHE. Also the job status shown as Inactive. So my question is that is it because of the inactivity of the job, my application got declined or anything else? Also do I have any chance of getting into BHE, when the job reopens? please share your information if you know something about it. Thanks

I was offered a job with Baker Hughes, yet when I log onto my profile (on a computer), it says "Declined". On a cellphone "Complete". I would hazard a guess and say it isn't an issue. But rather contact your recruiter and find out whether your application is still under consideration.

Congratulation for being a BH employee. However thanks for your information. I will update the forum if I hear anything from my recruiter (so far no news from them though sad )
