gmyguy: not everybody is privileged to get scholarships, but i didnt like the fact that those who already had one kept jostling for more with those who were indigent and didnt have, using the money to buy luxury goods...it wasn't fair and just plain greed

A very nice article, I must admit u read out da pros and cons of da medical profession, but u made mention of paramedical students who hates u, come on dats just anoda way of competition if u ask me, its more like dey envy us, but I must admit dey rock in wat dey do my friend dey are very good! And kudos for passing ur mbbs exams
Re: 12 Things I Learnt From The Medical School by Akgcfr: 3:13pm On Jul 31, 2014
Errr....i dont mean to bother you, BUT physiotherapists, radiographers, med-lab scientists are NOT paramedics!

Maybe you should xonsider the meaning of PARAMEDIC. SOmeone can spend 5 years in medical school witj 1 year internship and 1 year service only to be called a paramedic. Paramedics work in ambulances and emergency services site. They require no formal training. A banker can decide to take some causes in basic life support, get his certification in 3months and be a certified paramedic. Don't equal a medical degree to that. Mbbs/bds is just ONE OF the numerous degrees obtainable in college of medicine. Get some education.

I am a physiotherapist, speaking for me, i didnt have or notice any mbbs beef around me during my time, maybe guys were just being guys and real guys don't beef/hate over another's hustle. But the word paramedic is insulting to the other professionals here. Equal to calling a barrister, 'charge and bail'.

....and No, this is not hate sir!

Kind regards.

mentorandfriend: 4) NOT ALL PARAMEDICAL STUDENTS HATE MEDICAL STUDENTS; BUT THERE IS A HATE.
As a student, I enjoyed the friendship of nursing students, radiography students, medical labouratory students, and physiotherapy students. Those that like their course can give you so much fun. You can rub minds on any issue with them, from religion to romance. But there are bitter ones who wrote JAMB severally for medicine before they were offered something else. They refuse to like your pictures on facebook, and will never follow you back on twitter. When someone makes a snarl comment at you on facebook, they are the first to click like. How do you handle such people? Kill their power to hurt you by ignoring them. Get on only with the cheerful ones with healthy self esteem. They are extremely intelligent, and you can learn from them.

God is not relevant to passing exam. The majority of people who sit exams around the world have no time for gods in fact god is more likely to make you fail than to pass

You don't need to go to medical school to learn all the rubbish the OP has written. By the way we know they buy the questions so stop kidding yourselves

Is it possible for one who have a diploma in environmental health science to switch into Medicine via Direct Entry?
Re: 12 Things I Learnt From The Medical School by francdec4(m): 3:38pm On Jul 31, 2014
I actually read mainly Keith moore for my anatomy as i find Last too technical and i did VERY well in my anatomy classes. Last textbook is great but not for me its ideal for dudes who love the "cramming" stuff. I prefer figuring things from the basic principles rather than memorizing and thats why interventional cardiology is my call anyday.

DermalCarotene: But do anatomy questions normally come from Keith Moore's textbook of anatomy??

mentorandfriend: 3) ANY AVERAGE STUDENT CAN STUDY MEDICINE.
There is no truer statement. In medicine, your only challenge is to just make sure you know a lot. Cram everything. Read, read and read again. No flash of genius. If I have a very intelligent child, I'll send him to study aeronautical engineering, nuclear physics, or computer engineering. Truth is that an average student can pass through medicine if he can sit down and read. For nuclear physics, what will you do with those long equations? Just asking.

I have argued this point over and over with people especilly Doctors...

The human brain and the computer have a lot in common, storage & processing. To succeed in medicine, you need storage (take it in, take it in...remember! remember)

This statement is so not true. Medical students and doctors are the worse flirt : sad
mentorandfriend: 5) MEDICAL STUDENTS ARE NOT FLIRTS. Where do we even find the time? If you have a medical student as your boyfriend or girlfriend, you can be rest assured that he or she is not cheating on you, because we have no time for that. We do not have time to gist on Nneoma's bossom, nor Amaka's straight legs. When you have been harrassed by the consultants and residents for not answering basic questions on Hypertension or Diabetis during rounds, you'll discover that the firmness of Nneoma's bosom makes no sense to your career. You have to read your books.

Not necessarily.
I was lucky not to spend an extra minute in medical school at the University of Ibadan.
ASUU and co. started rearing their ugly head shortly after.
i wasn't referring to 'your days' and not everybody will be as "lucky" as you were.

mentorandfriend: I replied in respect to his question as a Bsc student. He cant do any masters in medicine with a Bsc. Of course after Medicine, the opportunities are endless. Masters in Epidemiology, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Public Health Policy, Biostatistics, Reproductive Health, Mental Health, Dental Health, Primary Health Care, Pharmacology, etc. But doing residency for 5-6 years to specialise is a better option to me than those masters programmes.
Kindly explain to me what Residency is all about ?

Is it a kinda school or work experience , are u paying for it or getting paid , is it as laborious as MBBS ..... Kindly explain in details ...

Thanks God bless !

yeah I also had difficulty agreeing with op on that point, i know what my 'guys' did and are still doing. I guess op belongs to the conservative medical student/doctors.

Tinyemeka: @ Mentorandfriend, after doctors have sworn the oath to uphold and protect lives, why do they still abandon patients at the point of death and proceed on strikes?
read the MDCN code of conduct handbook the answer is there and no medical doctor leaves patient "at the point of death" to proceed on strike, get your facts together.

Those of us that studied engineering have always said it.Medicine is a cheaper course. If you want to find out try Electrical electronics engineering. Then you will know.

this is MISLEADING, if you are still in medical school or about to enter please ignore this post. Generally medical students has restricted social life, just be yourself.
