What's wrong with being a teacher? As he progresses he will earn more especially if he upgrades himself by reading more- Masters/PhD. Also he can take students on private tuition to earn more. Some good teachers earn more than 1000 per lesson depending on the location and his performance which can be deduced from the students results over time. It may be far less in other areas/states though.
Only low level private schools pay poorly these days. For a public school teacher, part time post graduate studies is easier and there is job security. Comparatively, Lagos State teachers for instance are well paid.
I won't advise you to dump a man that you love just because of his profession. There is more to life than money! With your support he can excel in future.
