U.S. Government Claims Exclusive Ownership Over Its "Invention" Of Ebola by uken73(m): 10:53pm On Aug 05, 2014
I just came across a story of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control owning a patent on a particular strain of Ebola known as "EboBun." It's patent No. CA2741523A1 and it was awarded in 2010.

Here are extracts from the story.

Harvesting Ebola from victims to file patents

From the patent description on the EboBun virus, we know that the U.S. government:

1) Extracts Ebola viruses from patients.

2) Claims to have "invented" that virus.

3) Files for monopoly patent protection on the virus.

To understand why this is happening, you have to first understand what a patent really is and why it exists. A patent is a government-enforced monopoly that is exclusively granted to persons or organizations. It allows that person or organization to exclusively profit from the "invention" or deny others the ability to exploit the invention for their own profit.

U.S. Government claims exclusive ownership over its "invention" of Ebola

The "SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION" section of the patent document also clearly claims that the U.S. government is claiming "ownership" over all Ebola viruses that share as little as 70% similarity with the Ebola it "invented":

...invention relates to the isolated EboBun virus that morphologically and phylogenetically relates to known members filoviridae... In another aspect, the invention provides an isolated hEbola EboBun virus comprising a nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of: a) a nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1; b) a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes to the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1 under stringent conditions; and c) a nucleotide sequence that has at least 70%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, or 99% identity to the SEQ ID NO:

1. In another aspect, the invention provides the complete genomic sequence of the hEbola virus EboBun.

No medical reason to bring Ebola to the United States
This patent may help explain why Ebola victims are being transported to the United States and put under the medical authority of the CDC. These patients are carrying valuable intellectual property assets in the form of Ebola variants, and the Centers for Disease Control clearly desires to expand its patent portfolio by harvesting, studying and potentially patenting new strains or variants.

Dr. Bob Arnot, an infectious disease specialist who spent time on the ground in developing nations saving lives, recently told Judge Jeanine, "There is no medical reason to bring them here, especially when you see how well Dr. Bradley was." (2)

There is, however, an entirely different reason to bring Ebola patients to America: so they can be exploited for medical experiments, military bioweapons harvesting or intellectual property claims.

Surely, medical authorities at Emory University and the CDC are working hard to save the lives of the two patients who have been transported to the U.S. But they are also pursuing something else at the same time: an agenda of isolating, identifying and patenting infectious disease agents for reasons that we can only imagine.

Ebola is the ultimate biological agent/ weapon. U.S. military have been pumping funds into its research for a number of reasons. First, I think is to be prepared and have a cure before any terrorist organization can use it against them, second is to develop an aerosolized version that can be disseminated faster than this current strain as the ultimate weapon. In between might be academic purpose too.

I'm kinda confused right now. I mean what if it wasnt the US government but some rouge organisation with a real ulterior motives? even if the US govt does hold the patent, a rouge division of it might have used the virus to make financial gains.

I said it before even without reading this....US knows more about Ebola than we all think. Our ancestors were feeding on bush meat all their lives. I asked my grand mum yesterday and she said she has been eating bush meat especially bats for a long time now.

Then Ebola just surfaces from nowhere and theyre putting blames on an innocent fruit bat.

I blame Africa though..we have refused to grow. We are very comfortable with being described as 3rd world countries that's why they can test these things on us.

There are non-african countries enjoying their bush meat and they have different species of bats. Abi their own fruit bat no get Ebola?

Finally Ebola is live and real in Nigeria. I have a strong feeling Mr. Sawyer knew exactly what he was doing. I read somewhere that he deliberately urinated on some health workers at some point. Don't know how true.

Thank God they've almost found a real cure. Let them give it to us abeg.

Some white folks will say "As American Scientists are busy finding a cure, their African scientists are idling about doing nothing and getting.infected". FVCK you all.....You're busy find a cure to what you invented. It should be easier for you.

As long as Africa has refused to chage its status quo as the home of 3rd world countries. We should get ready for anything they throw at us.

The world as it is is sitting on a keg of gun powder all it needs is the right villain to come along and POOF!!! Just like it started, it's gone. Do you know how many nuclear weapons these developed nations have buried in the oceans...ALOT!!! all in the name of getting prepared against any attack. Chemical weapons, biological weapons have all been developed to combat these "anticipated danger".
I'm not saying it is, I don't have my facts, but Ebola could simply be one of these weapons and this outbreak, a test run.

A case of using a stone to kill two birds. Who embraces Ebola patients gracefully if not that there are other very important reasons attached to it. I still give it to US because they will be investing both financial, intellectual n personnel to a cause: saving human lives while having the sole right to do or otherwise. Lol.

its meant for financial gain. They invent the cure, spread the virus and the patent makes sure they are the only ones that can sell the cure

Its very obvious that America knows more about this virus than people are ready to admit. From the suspicous sudden outbreak to the suspicous speed a serum was whipped out when an American caught the disease

It won't be far off to imagine this could be a covert CIA operation. The antecedents of the USA in this regard is testament. What better way to monitor its effective rate of spread than throw it out there in the wild in Africa (no pun intended). . .and oh, have you buy the serum and if your government can't afford it, there starts another round of economic colonization.

The movie 'Resident Evil' comes to mind. They couldn't try it in europe. They cldnt test it in Asia, the chinese and the medically brilliant indians would fight back. They cldnt try it in south africa, they have much vested intrest and resources there. North Africa? No way, the Arabs are one though mudafukaz. And it won't be nice in east Africa, cos the presidents lineage is from there. There would be too much pressure on him. Gullible, poor, helpless West africa is just perfect for it.

How come after all these decades, the ebola virus suddenly appears? And its spreading faster than anythn. If it had been with africans all along, I dnt think there wld have been a single soul left on the continent.
Anyways, all these accusations and thories aren't important. Cos its obvious we'r pawns in the game. The most important thing is the cure, and how fast they can get it to us

I have never had any iota of doubt ebola is a US weapon that could be used for various purposes. There is a very good reason for the US to use the virus to twist our arms. The global recession hit them so bad that they really need a quick fix. They want what we have after pumping billions of dollars into finding an alternative but so far has failed flat on their face.

This present ebola outbreak is targeted at Nigeria but because there's never been a case of the virus in Nigeria, they had to start off from an ebola region for the conspiracy to be foolproof. Sawyer is a vehicle activated to transport the Virus to Nigeria. What do they want from us? Our oil. They have discovered their latest experiment; the shale oil is not a viable option so they had to activate their plan B so as to have enough oil to run their country. If ya'll will recall, they recently suspended the purchasing or our crude. That decision was made cos they are broke. Forget the media abragadaba, US is broke. The next step now will be to offer us the cure so as to get our crude. Watch as the game plays out. In God We Trust.

If anyone else should have a cure it's a pesticide. It's only their cure that is genuine.

Look at the Original Assignee. It states The Govt of the US as Represented by the Secretary of the Dept. of Health.
Would you believe that the Patent Registrars would be so dumb not to confirm the identity of the assignee?

He didn't go far enough. He should have correctly called you an id'iot.

There's nothing sneaky about this. This CDC has a page dedicated to discussing their licensing and patenting of lab inventions.

http://www.cdc.gov/od/science/technology/licensing/index.htm

Q: Why would the U.S. government claim to have "invented" Ebola and then claim an exclusively monopoly over its ownership?
A: If the CDC owns the patent then a private company can't patent it and exploit the public with it. The CDC licenses use of these patents to the private sector for commercialization. This allows companies to profit from the work they do involving the patent, but introduces a set of checks and balances which prevents them from exploiting the public or using the patent in a way that the public doesn't approve of. Anytime the CDC licenses the tech to a private company there is a review process that involves public input before the company can obtain the license. This allows multiple companies, universities and individuals to work towards a cure at the same time. If the patent was instead owned by a company they would the only one's working on a cure/treatment, and if they decided it wasn't worth it then they might just stop working on a cure/treatment. If they stopped NO ONE would be working on a cure/treatment.

There are cases in which the CDC gives an exclusive license, but again, it's a license that can be taken away if they break certain rules set out ahead of time, and the process for getting these exclusives is rigorous.
