Thatitan234:

doctors nd pharm dont research into finding viral drugs. Its d job of the virologists

Mor*on, a doctor and a pharmacist can also do research on viral drugs and get a cure for any virus........Its not necessarily assigned to a virologist. A virologist is just a specialist and has upper hand in virology and his job can also be done by any suitable health practitioner.....Sorry for the "mor*on" tag though.

WHY WE SHOULDN'T ENCOURAGE SALT-DRINKING AND SALT-BATHING FOR EBOLA VIRAL DISEASE PREVENTION!

By Dr. 'Malik Haruna King

#1: IT IS DECEPTIVE: Just like eating bitter-kola for cure, drinking warm salty water (or bathing with same at night) has absolutely no proven scientific or medical basis or evidence for prevention of EVD. Truth is bitter but it's healthier than salty lies and false hope!

#2: IT IS DISTRACTING: This would distract from the momentum we are trying to create for the effective way of preventing the spread of this deadly virus. Some people might become careless and lessen their commitment to personal hygiene and environmental sanitation!

#3: IT IS DANGEROUS: Salt is powerful--it can kill! That's why for ORT (for diarrhea treatment), we tell you the exact amount of salt and sugar to put in a clearly specified amount of water! Careless drinking and bathing with salt-water, especially if done repeatedly, is NOT advisable. It also raises the blood pressure and affect the skin.

#4: IT IS DISTURBING: I know of countries that have never had a single incidence of "Ebola", but have invested millions of dollars in research, gotten possible vaccines and drugs, done trials in animals (with success ), and have everything ready in case this virus enters their country! People are dying in Nigeria; see what we (including our graduates and scientists) are believing and broadcasting!

Ebola virus disease is NOT (and has not become) airborne! Spread is by physical contact.

Good u made a research on salt, oya go and make a research on what a virus is.

You are to fast in replying which is not good for you. Let me ask you.
Is salt a disinfectant?
Why are people advised to move round with disinfectant?
What is a disinfectant?
What is the make up of ORT?
What does Salt sugar solution does?
What is a bacteria?
What is a virus?
Does a bacteria and virus have anything in common?

If you can answer correctly, good for you.

Stop shouting VIRUS as if it's not been heard of before. Are you meant to focus on the word VIRUS or how the virus in question works. VIRUS is a generic name but viruses penetrate differently. So think before you start an argument you cannot defend.

Do not forget, you are only been told possible preventive measures.

Bros stop confusing people not t take possible preventing measures. Since your country has not been doing any research won't you take preventive measures on your own. Si don dey cry over research when its knocking in your country. Nothing is distracting in this. Also any good thing can kill if taking in the wrong quantity. Advise the right quantity instead of this hulabalo. Is first aid distracting a comprehensive medical care?

Salt is a disinfectant and I can advise all my beloved ones and enemies to follow suit.

Do not be reactive but proactive. When I heard it the first thing I did was to do some researches on the medicinal capability of salt. Why don,t you do so and free yourself of ignorance
If you did your research thoroughly, you'd also know that salt is a weak disinfectant, therefore, it shouldn't be considered as a first line of defence against germs or viruses as better alternatives obviously abound.
Can you measure the amount of salt per litre of water to ensure its efficacy and/ or safety? You guys can soak in salt all you want, just stop bandying it about as the solution to Ebola. For me, dettol will do just fine.

MY STORY #EBOLA SCARE: I was in my rm this morning when I overheard a neighbour talking about salt on d phone. I needed no prophet to tell me it was an Ebola scare call. I said to my self, this people don start again. About 2 minutes after, I heard my mum receiving a call about the same rumour. Before I could say jack,my mum was already in my room to inform me about the concortion. Lwkmd. I just told her it was a rumour. Una sabi our mums now,she nor even wan hear me out. She simply said it will cost her nothing. Trust my mum. Sharply she don boil water miss salt join. I just dey laugh. Few minutes after she had her bath, she received an SMS:SAFETY MEASURE AGAINST EBOLA VIRUS:Miss warm water salt n sugar, bath n drink now. She was like see what I was telling u,it has been confirmed. I checked n found that it was sent through an unknown no. I told her that as long as it was not from the ministry of health,it is a rumour. Una never see anything. I just commot go backyard come back see my mum for kitchen dey miss another warm water. I come say shey she don bath before she say yes. I come dey wonder. She say she wan bath again o. I asked why. She say sugar nor dey d first mixture so she don add sugar now wan bath again. I couldn't control my laughter. My people,my mum had her bath twice this morning cos of this fake news broadcast thru bbm by 2 FUTA undergrads playing pranks on themselves.

On salt n hot water nobody is being fooled. It cost nothing to do it as part of precautionary measures in addition to hygienic alert being circulated. No one says it will prevent when you deliberately engage in acts that will expose one to d virus like broda daniel a student of unife of old who enter d lion zoo hoping to be delivered like biblical daniel thus tempting God. The experts says d virus cant stand heat n direct sunlight. Hot water has heat properties and you agree with me salt also has antiseptic properties. So heeding to. The call to me is not foolishness but additional precautionary measures. Expert advise washing hands with soap regularly am sure that's not foolishness and for those who doesn't av money to buy hand sanitizers am sure soap with hot water mixed with salt will suffice. Rather than discouraging people as its a foolish act, d wise may jez elect not to do it. We need to carry each other along in this trying times through least cost sensitization and precautionary measures as its being circulated albeit its seen by folks as foolishness. Many are the afflictions of righteousness and God deliver them from it all. God will surely deliver us as we take precautionary measures.
