i bet the drivers needed for the pc to recognize those drives are missing, I think you need to have USB HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICE DRIVERS on your pc for you to be able to use such drives, if you know how to check the drivers on ur pc through the PROPERTIES TAB of your MY COMPUTER, check and see if this device is there, if not, i think you have to get it

From your complaints; it should be a driver issue.

How many USB ports have you got? Try all of them.
About the cable; have you been using it before,i would suggest you get a shorter cable if it says "USB Deviced not recognised".

About the Flash, how many flash drives have you tried?Try another one.

But if it could recognise some devices, then definitely your USB controller is enabled and working fine.
