In a bid to control the nationwide panic which the Ebola Virus scare caused in Nigeria, the Federal Government acting through the Ministry of Information has placed an indefinite embargo on the NOLLYWOOD Industry, banning them from shooting movies which are based on the Ebola Virus.

The reason for this decision by the Federal Government is based on the previous tendencies of the Nollywood Industry to shoot movies based on what is trending at the moment.

Addressing FNN Correspondents in Abuja, Minister of Information, Labaran Maku said was of the opinion that any action by the film makers of this country to release a new movie based on the Ebola virus would only serve to increase the already panoramic fear existing in Nigeria. In his words, “Nollywood is fond of shooting movies based on what is trending.

They gave us Blackberry Babes when Blackberry hype was in Nigeria. We saw Limpopo Babes and Skelewu Babes. There have been also many other videos released by Nollywood in time of National emergencies, such as the recent Journey To Chibok which was directed by Charles Novia, and Delivered From Sambisa by Emeka Ike.

Hence, the Federal Government is swiftly placing an indefinite ban on all movie directors and producers, precluding them from shooting, directing, or releasing any movie or play which has to do with Ebola in Nigeria. Any body found violating this rule will find himself to blame as he will be ‘exported’ to Liberia.”

Minister of Information has spoken. A word is enough for the wise.

That is undemocratic and counter productive. Through movies, people stands the chance of getting more information on it actually is and how to deal with it. Far better than superstitious and backward movies they inflict the people's minds with.
