Everton host Arsenal on Saturday August 23 in the continuation of EPL week 2.

Aaron Ramsey scored in stoppage time as Arsenal came from behind to beat 10-man Crystal Palace to kick off their 2014-15 Premier League season.Brede Hangeland had given Crystal Palace the lead against the run of play in the first half, heading home Jason Puncheon’s corner.  Arsenal equalised in the final minute of the first half when Laurent Koscielny pealed off his marker to cleverly flick home Alexis Sánchez’s free kick.  Jason Puncheon was sent off for a second yellow card late on before Aaron Ramsey popped up to tuck home a rebound to give Arsenal a dramatic victory. The Gunners dominated much of the possession but did not greatly test Palace goalkeeper Julián Speroni throughout but for scoring on two set pieces.
While Everton drew 2-2 with Leicester away. A late equaliser from substitute Chris Wood ensured Everton were held to an opening day 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The Blues had looked on course to take all three points thanks to excellent first-half goals from Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith. But the Foxes frontman pounced in the 86th minute to rescue a draw for the Premier League newcomers.McGeady had earlier put Everton ahead with a precise curling effort in the 20th minute – his first competitive goal for the Club since joining from Spartak Moscow in January.Leonardo Ulloa replied instantly for the hosts before the Blues regained the advantage moments prior to half-time when Naismith swept home from just inside the area.Wood’s composed finish in the closing stages completed the scoring and denied the Toffees victory.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the Germain trio of Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil should return for the weekend match at Everton’s Goodison Park on Saturday. The Frenchman confirmed this after the disappointing draw against Besiktas on Tuesday.“We should have [Per] Mertesacker and [Mesut] Ozil and [Lukas] Podolski available again at the weekend. Let hope they are in good shape when we go home.”The German trio were given an extended time off after their participation at the World Cup were Germany were crown champions. Mesut Ozil featured in Germany’s entire match; While Per Mertesacker featured in all the group matches, and round of 16 match, and came on as a substitute in the other matches. While Lukas Podolski only played 45 minutes in Brazil.Going by how Arsenal’s matches have gone so far, the player that has been missed is Mesut Ozil. The former Real Madrid playmakers’ astute passing and through balls were solely missing in the match against Crystal Palace and Besiktas. His return to the side should add some much needed creativity in the team, and perhaps raise the game of others.Arsenal’s German contingent would be the last set of German players that featured at the World Cup finals on July 13th to return to action for their club. Already Toni Kroos played for Real Madrid in it Super Cup win over Sevilla last Tuesday, while the Bayern Munich contingent of Manuel Neuer, Phillip Lahm, Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mario Goetze featured in a German Cup game at last weekend. While Andre Schurrle who set up the winning goal for Mario Goetze in the World Cup finals at the Maracana started for Chelsea in the Premier League match on Monday.Although, Arsenal’s German trio has only missed three matches, there is no doubt that they could have returned much earlier from their World Cup break, especially Lukas Podolski who only played half a match at the World Cup in the group stages. The point that the other German players in the bundesliga and else where have the benefit of a winner break later in the season, which the Arsenal German trio would not enjoy which meant they had to be given a one week break, so was Andre Schurrle of Chelsea who wouldn’t have the benefit of a winter break, yet he still returned early. Its nice that their return coincidences with the match at Goodison Park against Everton, as Arsenal would need all it best players for the encounter especially with Mikel Arteta and Kieran Gibbs out injured.
