The Canadian manufacturer once flourished in the mobile market before the advent of Google’s android which has claimed larger percentage in the mobile world today. They have revived their stake by pumping in blackberry OS 10 phones which at the moment is promising. Getting a smartphone means you are addressing some part of your existence in a smart or geeky way and then having a Personal Assistant definitely is adding more juice to the notion.
Apple’s iOS has Siri, Google’s android has Google Now, Microsoft’s windows phones has Cortana and Blackberry is now having Blackberry Assistant. The Blackberry Assistant is evidently a feature of the latest blackberry OS 10.3 which comes with the Blackberry Passport and offers the same functions found in the other platform’s virtual assistant.
The assistant features the now-ubiquitous “microphone in a circle” icon to tell you where to press to get started and it also offers shortcuts (iconography similar to that of cortana) for certain actions like sending a BBM, a text, an email, setting up reminders or checking the weather. It learns as you use it, making it more effective in the long run and can also be called up for certain actions just like Google Now on the latest version of Android. The virtual assistant has the capability to synchronize with Bluetooth devices when on the go and it even gives social network updates which makes it more interesting.

Blackberry social media marketing boss Donny Halliwell explains that “Like a real-life personal assistant, the BlackBerry Assistant is in lockstep with what I need to do on my Passport, without being distracting or costly (resource-wise)”

Blackberry is definitely lagging behind its peers in the smartphone world. But incorporating a virtual assistant to their phones is a step towards closing the gap. All in all, if looking for a personal assistant is currently on your To-do list, then the Blackberry assistant might just be the ideal choice for you.
