Majority of our problems are caused by the greed,selfishness and corruption that is synonymous with the average Nigerian. This is not a govt issue but a "people" issue. It has become a trend in Nigeria and issues like these have been occuring under previous govts. If something like this becomes a trend and is always re-occuring,it is then safe to say it is the way of life of Nigerians. So when they say Nigerians are some of the most corrupt people on earth,there is a reason. The unfortunate thing is that we often fail to realise these salient facts and issues,and are always quick to pass the blame on "govt",forgetting that govt is not just one person called the president,but a collection of different individuals who have decided to serve the nation in different capacities. As citizens,we are forgetting that we are part of the govt and that whatever little mistake we make while in public service to the nation,has it's adverse effect on the image of the country,when pooled together over a long period of time.

Those holding on to these funds,probably didn't envisage the kind of national embarrassment it was going to cause,when the story gets to the public. The average Nigerian would always blame it on the president,forgetting that the president doesn't weild mystical and supernatural powers to control the innate greed and selfishness that the average Nigerian govt worker,has inside of him/her.

My conclusion is that,the Nigerian govt will always be seen as corrupt and would always be embarrassed with issues like these until the average Nigerian decides to do what is right and eschew corrupt practices. There is a direct link of corruption between the govt and the people.
