Congo have submitted a letter to the Confederation of African Football requesting for the relocation of their Group A opener of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers against Nigeria, scheduled on September 6 in Calabar. The ‘Diables Rouges’ are concerned with the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa’s most populated country. “I think that would be difficult and risky to play in this area. As a matter of fact, neighbouring Cameroon have closed their borders,” Congo coach Claude Leroy explained. The spread of the deadly virus in West Africa has already led CAF to ask for the relocation of Guinea v Togo and Sierra-Leone v DR Congo, while some question marks have been raised about Côte d’Ivoire v Sierra Leone. Congo booked their spot in the qualifiers of the continental showpiece after Rwanda were barred from taking part for fielding ineligible striker Dady Birori.
