The Price For A True Jewel. (part 1&2) by pappyjoe(m): 3:24pm On Aug 27, 2014
Richard took a second look at himself in the mirror after
getting Raymond’s recommendations on his outfit, he was
a true lover of fashion and whatever it takes to look good
and Ray as he liked to be called was up to the task.
Today was another day he was trying to endure, his
parent’s continual habit of organising get togethers and
house warming party to celebrate one or two achievements
or so they claimed because in reality, they wanted to hook
him up with one of their rich friend’s daughter and his
mum was not so subtle about it as she kept giving pointers
for him to notice some of these bimbos who were as spoilt
as every rich kid he knows. He needed more than all these
light hearted fairies that talk as if they walked on gold not
dust.He needed a woman not some immatured girl who is
either obesed or too thin because they want to keep in
shape, what is the sickness called again? Ax- ria or
whatever he could not force that word out at this point but
what he was sure of is that he is not interested in any of
the once he has seen so far.
“Richie it’s almost time, they should be expecting us by
now.” Ray said interupting his thought as he busied
himself adjusting his Gucci belt, Richie admired his friend
and knew he was out to impress those ladies with his
cowboy look, a stripped shirt tuked into a blue jean with a
pair of italian shoes and a Rolex, who knows, he might go
home with a spoil he thought as he caught a smile on
Ray’s face.
” Why do you have that sheepish grin on your face? I know
you are thinking about nailing one of those girls, you know
what man? I am sick of playing games and what annoys
me is that my parent actually thinks one of those ladies will
be a good match for me… Those cheap girls that always
wants to get into your pants because they think you are
handsome.” Richard’s brow was furrowed with anger as he
recalled his previous escapades and he could swear that
there were no decent ladies with ego and self dignity, the
girls came too cheaply and he is beginning to fear he might
remain a barchelor for life if he does not get a worthy
woman he can actually pursue, he needed a challenge, he
needed to feel like a real man and find himself a bride
without his parent’s good graces which was not going
down well with him.
Ray looked at his friend with a fixed gaze and smiled, he
could not have asked for a better friend, though Richie was
a Rich kid and though they both have had there share of
ladies, he always loved to earn his keep by not going for
cheap girls, he had class but the man standing before him
now has his mind made up to search for a worthy bride,
that would not have been a problem because of a truth
everyone is just getting laid but it’s time to do it the right
way and that is the old fashioned way.
“Richie we are men and we know what we want, we want
noble women with self dignity but where on this planet can
we find them seeing that our parents are running out of
patience?”
“Exactly but I think I have found my bride.”Richard’s face
lit up in excitement while Ray looked with confusion.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked with seriousness
but his friend was too overwhelmed too answer him but he
was determined to know.
“Did you say something?” Richie asked.
“Yes man, who is she?”
Find out in the next episode…

Richard had ignored that question because in reality he
could not claim to have found a wife because as it stands
now he is the last person she wants to see let alone marry.
He gave himself a mental shake and wished he had acted
better, he was in a sour mood that faithful afternoon when
his mum asked him to go get some groceries for the house,
he was pissed but ofcourse he could not say no to the
woman. In his haste to leave the supermarket, he actually
swapped his parkage with someone else’s and he had
gone half way when he caught sight of a golden morn
parkage.
“What! Oh no,this is not happening.” he made a U-Turn
back to the store and his fury was fanned with the
sluggishness the sales girl was using to attend to
customers.
“Sir thank God you came back, we tried to stop you earlier
but you sped up as if someone was chasing you, you made
away with…”
“hey!!! Stop there, when you say I made away with
something, you are insinuating that I stole it right? What
kind of person is this? I made a mistake and I came back
because of it and you dare stand there to call me a thief?”
“but sir I didn’t ca…Shut up my friend” he cuts in ” I won’t
take this nonsense from you or anyone” he began to say
when he heard someone tap him.
” And who the he…” the word hung in mid-sentence as he
met her gaze. He realized that he was constituting
nuisance in the store and the sales girl was panicking
because her customers were walking out since he didn’t let
her sell but then, standing before him is a pretty face that
held no amusement in it and there he was gawking at her
and except his eyes were playing jokes with him, he would
not have placed a name to that face.
” I can see you have not changed, You are still the rich boy
claiming rights and interrupting people’s schedule. The
world does not rotate around you. I hope when next we
meet, you will be more composed than this, shouting does
not fit you. Have a nice day Richard.” She walked away
leaving him dumpfolded.
No girl had the guts to talk to him in that manner but
Cynthia was not just like the other girls.
Way back in secondary school they were cat and rat, he
was two years her senior and he had asked her out, she
broke record by saying no and maintaining her no.
There was no trick he didn’t use, he tried to go soft but she
was stubborn, he wanted to use force, yet she resisted.
She became a project to be tackled bacause he wondered
what kind of girl will say No to him.
Now that they are adults, they had crossed path several
times and all those times,he was caught in the most
unfavourable situations.
Lying on his bed, with his face looking at the ceiling, all he
could think of was how to get Cynthia, yes they have not
been really friends but he liked her in a twisted way. She
made him realize he was just like every other person, his
wealth does not make him special. Well only Cynthia thinks
and talks that way.
Maybe she might give him a chance now that he is no
more hiding under his father’s wealth, atleast he is an
entrepreneur and his father’s wealth is just a bonus.
Raymond was determined to know the lady that has kept
his friend brooding for days. He is actually getting
convinced about the change of attitude his friend talked
about, it was a shock to him when Richie woke him up by
6:30am telling him it’s time for devotion, he assumed it
was a joke but they have been having devotions since the
day after his father’s party.
No more late nights, he claimed he was learning to live like
a responsible man because if he intends to marry the best,
he had to be good enough for her, you should not expect
what you are not ready to do to others.
Raymond met Richard in the room, with the laptop and
many documents on the bed and he knew his dad must
have called him to work on those documents but on this
day and time,he needed to know who is the reason for the
turn around.
Richard knew Raymond was losing patience but he could
not bring himself to tell him its the same girl that had said
no to him in capital letters, the same girl that made him
question his dating skills, the same one they had mocked
him over for failing to get but up till now, he has not found
out where she stays, yes she is in this city but where.
Raymond was good at finding people and getting
information, hiding the truth from him may not be wise but
he had to endure the mockery. He dropped the laptop on
the bed and stood up. He paced the length and breadth of
his room as Raymond leaned on the wall watching him.
“It’s okay dude, you know am itching to know who has
done this to you. They are positive changes you know and I
wonder who she could be that you are not…”
“Ok!! Just listen, it’s Cynthia- Cynthia Benjamin. Now don’t
you dare laugh at me because I can’t seem to get her off
my mind since that night.”
Raymond had the look of shock in his eyes at first, then he
burst into laughter.
“It’s not funny man, I need your help”
“how?”
“Help me find her.”
“From where now and what if she is married?”
