Nigerians Celebrate Corruption – Peter Obi by Nobody: 7:35pm On Aug 27, 2014
former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, Wednesday said corruption thrives in the country because Nigerians worship money.
He said the problem with the country is impunity, adding: “the level of greed is unacceptable.”
Speaking during a plenary session of the ongoing Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Owerri, Imo State, Obi, who spoke on the topic: “Nigeria, Any Hope For industrial Revolution,” said corruption does more than harm development.
“Corruption and greed kill entrepreneurship, hardwork and professionalism,” he said.
Obi condemned greed among political office holders who assume power with the single aim of enriching themselves with filthy lucre.
“Someone is voted into office and had no house, no car, but in six months, the person has three cars, six houses, and the person organises a thanksgiving. Even the bishop is praying for him to make more money.
“We have to start fighting those things that make industrial revolution impossible. We have to start by building a country where there is zero tolerance for greed and impunity,” Obi said.
Meanwhile, the NBA President, Okey Wali (SAN), has called for a reform of appointment and elevation of judges and justices.
He said nothing in law stops a qualified lawyer from being appointed a state’s Chief Judge, adding that a lawyer should also be able to go to the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court from the Bar without having to serve on the bench first.
Wali also sought a review of the Constitution to divest governors of powers to appoint Chief Judges.
He said, “Why should another arm of government appoint the head of another arm? Does the judiciary appoint the governor of a state? Do we appoint the speaker of the House of Assembly? So why should they appoint our head?”
A former NBA President, Joseph Daudu (SAN), said the Chief Justice of Nigeria should not preside over the National Judicial Council (NJC) which has the responsibility of appointing and disciplining judges.

Try to comment with facts. Where other states are heavy debtors, Peter Obi left a huge amount of money in the state treasury. Anambra is one of the least infected states in Nigeria.

Agreed, you should not be carried away by the said deposits at the coffers of the state. It is either he did not perform so well during his eight years reign in that state or he could not amass further wealth for fear of EFCC. shocked

In addition, check those states you highlighted; they are poles apart from Anambra State. An unimaginable difference. At least they have invested in the future of their respective states. There is no development without debt!

This is what annoys me most, politicians go to churches and donate huge sums of money that their salary for a year wouldn't even cover, instead of the Pastors and Reverend fathers to ask questions, they invite these politicians to the altar for special prayers and blessings.
What utter hypocrisy!

Judge your self before you judge orders he is talking as if he is a saint as if he was not a political office holder before people like him are even the most corrupt ones but would come and be condemning orders.

Beer palour arguement.
If you say Obi dried up the state coffers prove it and not throwing senseless comments around like an Umuleri fool that you are.
Obi dont need to steal from the government because he was already a wealthy man and a man of integrity and prestige.
If he stole why hasnt he been accused by opposition and losers.
Show the proof or shut your dirty mouth once and for all.

Nobody is arguing about being a saint here but if you accuse somebody of being dirty you have to show proof to back the accusations. This is simple and if you dont have any proof they you should keep silent on that.

Dreal1247: Why is Odua's case drawing so much attention. All the levies being collected by Tinubu does not call for any form of investigation. Everything in this country is either politicised or tribalised. Most levies that ar collected in Lagos state go directly into some individuals' pockets or bank accounts. Yet it is this woman that has been working tirelessly to upgrade our aviation sector. Its well.

Mr Hypocrite....

Do you comment with facts when you formulate your baseless and fact less accusations accusations against Tinubu

BTW, Anambra is $41 million in the hole...

This is the "core" problem with Nigeria. The few that try to ask questions will be tagged "attention seekers" or will be attributed with some sort of bigotry.....Example is how former CAN president Bishop Onaiyekan gets attacked by GEJ appologists whenever he criticizes the negative policies of the govt.
