KINGSLEY OMONOBI-ABUJA.

Former Chief of Army Staff, General Onyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika yesterday opened a can of worms by declaring that the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory and APC Chieftain, Mallam Nasir El-Rufia is one of the frontline Commanders of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Speaking with Vanguard over allegation by the former minister that he (Ihejirika) and former Governor Modu Sheriff of Borno State were fingered as terrorists sponsors, General Ihejirika said he is not surprised that this unimaginable allegation is coming from ‘one of the Boko Haram Commanders’.

“The (Commanders) including El-Rufai know where the problem is. He should stop deceiving Nigerians by trying to divert attention”.

According to Ihejirika, “When the Boko Haram operation started, supporters of the sect like El-Rufai said that there was nothing like Boko Haram and that the army was just killing innocent youths”.

“If you also remember, not too long ago, some of their supporters including El-Rufai said that I was re-inventing the killing of the Ibos during the Biafra war following government’s determination to rid the country of terrorism.

Ihejirika who was obviously angry while speaking on phone, also said, “The likes of El-Rufai started the campaign of human right abuses, in order to divert the international attention of the heinous crime being committed by the Boko Haram terrorists”.

Gen. Ihejirika then recalled recent allegations against his person indicating that that he took away N48 billion, an amount of money which is still in the coffers of the Ministry of Defence, which can be verified by anybody adding that he was not surprised that these allegation is coming from the likes of El-Rufai who started the campaign.

Continuing the former Army Chief said, “The likes of El-Rufai have been supporting Boko Haram. In fact, El-Rufai and his likes are the same group of people that ensured the army did not to get the requested equipment to deal with this menace once and for all, as they used their cohorts to tell the government that procuring modern equipment were not necessary”.

Recalling that the same El-Rufai went to Thisday Newspaper premises to grant interview to condemn security forces for the efforts at ridding the country of these senseless mayhem by the terrorists, Ihejirika said, “At the onset of this crisis, I was the first person to declare that the country was at war but group of sponsors led by El-Rufai disagreed, that it was not true”.

“It is the same group of El-Rufai that started the human right abuses campaign. It was done in order to block any international assistance after the state of emergency was declared and the sect was initially tamed. That gave Boko Haram time and respite to build up again”.

Furthermore, General Ihejirika said that when the United States was to initially declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization, the same El-Rufai and his group mounted pressure on the international community, using alleged human right abuses as campaign strategy.

The former Army Chief revealed that this same group including El-Rufai have taken further steps in support of Boko Haram, “which I cannot disclose for now”.

It will be recalled that shortly after his tenure came to an end as COAS, some Northern political elites started the crusade for General Azubuike Ihejirika to be summoned before the International criminal Court in the Hague claiming that he killed their sons and daughters innocently whereas it is on record that no other military leader but Ihejirika did a lot in helping the nation contain the rapid spread of Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

He not only established the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army with headquarters in Maiduguri, he established new Army Brigades, Counter Terrorism Schools in Kachia and Jaji as well as the Terrorism Training School.

Watch the clip on Arise TV. El-Rufai only quoted what was said by the negotiator. Or is Ihejirika saying El Rufai paid the guy to make the allegations?

Dear Lord, who works in marvellous ways. May this Australian be the thing that will throw confusion among all these people, they have started to point at each other, let this man's revelation cast untold confusion among them, the kind not seen since the tower of babel, and let the truth prevail. So Ihejirika is confirming he was a total failure as the former Chief of Army Staff. Is he trying to tell us he knew all along and he just decided to look the other way?
I think he should be stripped of all national honours for shielding Mallam Nasir El-Rufia as one of the frontline Commanders of the Boko Haram instead of protecting the Nigerians he was paid to do.

Nonsense...

So Ihejirika knew El-Rufai was a boko haram sponsor and he is just telling us now? As a former COAS what did he do to arrest El-Rufai and his fellow boko haram sponsors? angry

So many ungrateful elements in this country. In sane societies, people like Ihejirika are celebrated. But not so in countries whose citizens pull in different directions like Nigeria.

How can we succeed at anything when there is no unity of purpose?

Meanwhile, now we know that efforts to procure more modern military hardware at the early stage of this war on Boko Haram was frustrated by Boko Haram sympathisers in govt. In the last 3 to 4 years, key security positions like minister of defense, national security adviser, etc have been in the hands of core northerners. What has been the contribution of these key security chiefs to the war against Boko Haram?

A carefully planned assassination may go a long way in rescuing this nation from the grip of feudal warlords up north.

El Rufai's bucket is full and I expect the SSS to do the needful.

The fact is Ihejirika has been named as a terrorist and El-rufai only drew attention to it. Emotional outbursts instead of a calm logical response is a simple sign of guilt.

You need to stop doing crack. In a sane society this hero of yours will be charged with Dereliction of Duty (and perhaps treason) for letting a known terrorist walk free and feed the organization while he did nothing to counter as Defence Chief.

As much as I respect Ihejirika I least expected him to come to this level as an Army General to engage a bloody misguided loose canon as El-Rufai at such a time like this.

And these Ministers of Defence and NSA are PDP members, right?

No APC member has been linked to Boko Haram, right?

These Boko Haram sympathisers in Govt are PDP members, right?

GEJ said that Boko Haram members are in his government, right?

That means GEJ knows the BH members, right?

My simple question is "Why did GEJ as the Chief Security Officer of this Country do nothing to prosecute these sponsors of terrorism in the PDP?

Meanwhile, if an Ihejirika from the southeast is the person remote controlling the destruction and dilapidation of an entire region using the instrumentality of Boko Haram, then it means Ihejirika must be a geniuse with extra-ordinary or even supernatural powers while the leaders of the region being destroyed are the biggest fool since the creation of mankind for allowing such devastation by an outsider.

Firstly, it wasn't el-rufai who mentioned Iheajirika and Modu Sherrif as boko haram sponsor. It was the Australian negotiator.

Secondly, if what the retired general is saying is true then why didn't he order for the arrest and prosecution of el-rufai while he was in office?

Lastly, its evident that some top military brass(serving and retired) who are making huge money through this insurgency are part of those sponsoring boko haram. The longer the insurgency, the more money they make.

last time I checked, El-Rufai and Sheriff are not in government. Who then are those frustrating the purchase of military equipments? All the money that have been released so far to purchase equipments to fight boko haram, who squandered the money? Is it the boko haram sponsors that made our soldiers use AK47 guns to fight boko haram who have better weapons? Is it the boko haram sponsors that is responsible for the corruption in the military which has made boko haram have an upperhand by hoisting flags?

Ihejirika professionally did his job as a gallant military officer by curbing the incursion of Boko Haram during his time. It is not his primary responsibility to start arresting politicians sympathetic to the insurgent cause but to confront the enemies head on. Ihejirika we all knows delivered in his assignment hence the bickering of dim wit like Sickler El-Rufai. Imagine the paranoia telling Ihejirika he went for a revenge mission cos of what happened to the Biafrans on his people.

Ihejirika was one of the Army Chief out of the 3 in the military formation back then and he even had a superior in the person of Chief of Defense Staff. Why won't this northerners allow this IBO man to rest? Is it a crime for an IBO man to have attained such enviable position?

God is watching that demonic el-rufai even as he will not learn with the calamity befalling his household.

Der is no doubt in my mind that Ihejirika is the main sponsor of Bokoharam. The menace of BH was under control till GEJ appointed this incompetent man and he totally messed things up. There is no doubt he has a hand in all of this.

Why cry now after the Aussie journalist revealed his part in terrorism in Nigeria?

Only for the eddiot to making counter allegations after he has been busted. Ihejirika should be arrested and investigated immediately

When Boko Haram nominated Buhari and his co-terrorists to negotiate with the government, was General Ihejirika mentioned?

Yes the president was right when he said the Boko sympathisers have infiltrated his government which most of them using propaganda succeeded in scuttling his plans for curbing boko haram.

Wasn't Sanusi Lamido Sanusi part of his government? With so much money at the disposal of Sanusi he empowered his fellow sympathisers with overbloated contract awards just to keep the activities of their foot soldiers going.

Is it not the same northerners and in APC stronghold that has been sabotaging the efforts of the military? Sometimes I wonder how we have come so low as a nation.

Instead of El-rufai to worry about how his military brother officers open up military armoury, cache for his Boko boys to arm themselves, instead of him to worry how his brothers in the military connived and compromise military formations and signals against Boko haram onslaught he goes about shouting Ihejirika because he stood against their evil machinations.
