The Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) has declared the Niger East Senatorial District
election inclusive. INEC said on Sunday that this was as a result of
violence and irregularities recorded in seven
polling units across four local government areas of
the district. INEC’s Returning Officer the election, Prof. Wole
Morenikeji, said at the Commission’s head office in
Minna that the results from the polling units have
been cancelled. According to Morenikeji: “A re-run of elections in
the affected pooling units will hold on Saturday, 6th
September, 2014. “The local government areas affected are Shiroro,
with three polling units cancelled as a result of
violence; Munya local government area for electoral
irregularities; and in Tafa Local Government Area,
Corps members were taken to wrong polling units. “In Rafi Local Government Area, the Youth Corps
members reported to us that they were harassed
and the touts took away electoral materials from
them.” As at the time of filing this report, Nuhu Zagbayi of
the Peoples Democratic Party was leading with
89,698 votes, while David Umaru of the All
Progressives Congress had 84,640 votes. Also confirming the development, INEC Head of
Information in Niger State, Mohammed Waze, said
until the supplementary election is held, the winner
cannot be declared. Waze, who spoke to journalists, said: “The Niger
East Senatorial by-election is inconclusive. “A supplementary election will hold on Saturday
September 6th, so that a clear winner will emerge
and final result released.” The seat of the district in the Senate became vacant
on June 12 following the death of Senator Dahiru
Aweisu Kuta.

It must be a keenly contested election.
The popularity of the candidate will be an added advantage.

the 2 contestants are really popular. Moreso, they are from the same tribe gbagyi, both Christians and attend the same church.
Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbai, a pharmacist, was previously a commissioner of health in Niger State and then 2 terms deputy governor under former governor Abdulkadir Kure.
Barr David Umoru, of APC, contested for governorship twice against Kure and lost. He has a lost of sympathy votes from Minna residents. Unfortunately, he won Chanchaga Local Govt (where Minna town is), and Bosso, Minna's immediate neighbouring local govt, got Rafi, but failed to garner same votes in the remaining 6 local govts. A hard fought pre-election campaign. Was in Minna last week and witnessed everything.

all's fair in war and peace. Barcanista made a whole lot of noise last night, but has been hibernating since INEC announced the results.

Why is our INEC very incompetent? Common senatorial bye-election in just 9LGAs is inconclusive, I wonder the magic they perform to bring the results we see every time and how they'll manage to conduct the forthcoming general elections because it seems their experiments have no end.

Learn to read well my bro, the reasons stated were largely due to violence. You expect INEC to validate and announce results from such PU's? No, they wouldn't. Because they are COMPETENT, contrary to your claim.

So who should be blamed for that, maybe you I guess? Anyway, that excuse doesn't still cover the fact that they lack competency if they can not prosecute a free and fair election in just 9LGAs within given time frame because of violence, that means there'll be myriad of excuses to give by the time they'll be announcing the 2015 general election results; otherwise, I've never seen one election that inec has successfully conducted without excuses and complaints even if its just one LGA, in fact, the more smaller the election in Nigeria the more inec's ineptitude is exposed.

No wonder the PDP and even FFK all were very confident that inec's own result will be different from what was on ground thereby giving them the confidence to advice that people should wait until inec announces her official result in Osun state because in their calculations and plans, their great is always ahead with inec in charge. One needs to wonder if there's any difference between results obtained from polling units and the one that inec announces.
