Charles kept to his word. He came to see me everyday after school with Esther and sometimes, Sandra. We revised for our exams together. "...And that's the end of that topic," Charles said, closing the government textbook. "Should I leave my textbook here with you so you can revise?"he asked. "No, dont worry. My mum is bringing my books over today or so," I said. "Daisy, did the doctor say you'll be out soon?" Esther asked. "If I dont still have glass lodged at the back of my head." "Wow..so the accident was that serious," Esther said. "Esther, I didnt have an accident. Sarah threw me on glass. Why would my mum tell such a lie to Mrs. Essien?" "Your mum didnt really come to school by herself. She told Sarah to meet Mrs. Essien and inform her," Charles explained. "I thought as much," I mumbled. Charles went on talking and talking, while stroking my face lovingly. Just then, we heard sounds of camera clicks and Esther started laughing. "This picture is lovely! DP tinz o!" Esther yelled in excitement, fiddling with her phone. "Girl abeg, no put that picture as your profile picture. I no want any body to disturb me in school," I protested. "Esther, send it to me through Bluetooth please," Charles said, giving her his phone. The door opened and my mum and Lillian walked in. "Good afternoon, Ma," Charles and Esther greeted. "Afternoon dears. Daisy, hope you are getting better," Mum replied. "Yes, Mum," I said. "That's Lillian," I whispered to Charles. "Today is coconut rice and fried fish," Lillian said proudly, sitting on my bed and opening the food flask. "We have to go now, Daisy. We will see you tomorrow, OK?" Esther said, hanging her school bag on her back. "Dont forget to revise. Government is first paper on Monday and CRS is second paper," Charles reminded. He had already dropped a copy of the examination timetable for me. "Thanks for coming and helping her revise," Mum said and told Lillian to see them off. 1 Like |

TWO WEEKS LATER... "Thanks for everything, Doctor," Mum said, helping me to the car. I still had the bandage on my head, but I was told I could remove it after two days. "That's OK. She should be fully recovered by now," Dr. Grace said. "She needs a nice change of environment," she added. "Dr. Grace, will I be able to attend a party?" I asked. "Whose party?" Mum asked, immediately. "Uhmm...Mum, my friend. The girl that normally came to see me in the hospital. It's her birthday party," I immediately replied. "When is it?" Mum asked. "Saturday," I said. "She can go. It will help her recover nicely. Thank God she didnt loose her memory." On Saturday, I woke up early so I could have time to shop for a birthday gift for Charles. I had decided to buy him a wristwatch so I would still have money in my purse for my other expenses. I wore a nice short sleeved blue blouse and black jean trousers with my pair of pink sneakers. I got to the venue of the party by noon. "Daisy!" some of my classmates yelled and ran to embrace me. The party was already in full gear with many people on the dancefloor. "Sandy, you gree?" I hailed giving Sandra a high-five. She was really rocking it out in a show-me-your-back blouse and bumshorts. "What do you expect? George is around, na!" Gina, my classmate said jokingly. Sandra hit her on the head. "Girl, you look cute. You and Charles are gonna be a cute couple, mehn.." Sandra said. "Hey! Glad you could make it, darling," Charles said, as soon as he sighted me. "Happy birthday, sweetheart!" I said, giving him the wrapped birthday gift. Charles collected it and immediately jammed his lips with mine. I could hear the guests yelling in excitement and cameras clicking, but I didnt care. At least no adult was there. It was just our schoolmates. "That's all I needed for a birthday gift," Charles said, smiling. "You eh..." I teased. Soon, we headed to the dancefloor. Back in my former school, my classmates used to call me a Shakira wanna-be cause of my expertise in making good use of my waist. I was really having fun. Some boys even brought knock-outs and bangers and were making noise all over the place. I met Charles' older brother at the party. Handsomeness reigned in the family. His bro was damn cute, but Charles was cuter cause he was light skinned. "Fred, meet my friend, your sister-in-law, Daisy. Daisy, this is my big bro," Charles intoduced. "Your friend, abi wife? Hey, Daisy! I like your name..and I love your dancing skills." "Hey, hey, hey! Eyes off my girl, bro!" Charles cut in, laughing. "Hi, Fred!" I replied, with a little laugh. The party ended by 4:00. Charles, Sandra and Fred escorted me home. On the way, we bought suya and coke. I was already full from all the food I ate at the party, so I didnt really eat much suya. Charles kept feeding me, until I begged him to stop. I noticed Sandra had her eyes on Fred throughout, even at the party. "Fred, which school are you in?" Sandra asked. "Madonna University. I'm studying Computer Engineering there," Fred replied. "Wow..nice. I'm sure you have lots of girlfriends hovering over you there," Sandra said, winking at him. He laughed and said no. I whispered to Charles what was really happening and he burst out laughing. "What's so funny?" Sandra asked. "Fred has a girlfriend o!" he said, amidst laughter. "So..why are you telling me?" Sandra said. She sounded like she wanted to cry. After finishing her suya, Sandra said she had to get going before her mum started calling, so only Charles and Fred escorted me home. Luckily for me, my parents werent around. Lillian answered the door. "Hey!" Lillian said, waving at Charles. "Hi!" Charles and Fred answered. Fred looked dazed, like he had just seen a ghost. As they left, Lillian began teasing me about my 'cute lover boy', as she called it. "I dont mind him as my in-law o!" She said laughing. "Did you see how the older one kept staring at you?" I retorted back. "Abeg, fash! I get that all the time," Lillian said. Oho! Me too na!" I said. "He's in Madonna o!" I added. "Seriously?!" She said suddenly. Lillian had a crush on Madonna boys. According to her, there were the cutest boys in universities. "That explains his cuteness," she added. I laughed and ran to my room. 1 Like 1 Share |

Since exams were over, Mum decided there was no point going to school everyday again, till the end of term party where I would collect my result. Sarah was out and Lillian had gone back to school, so I was home with my Dad. I had woken up around 9:00 and met Dad in the parlour watching a football match. "Morning Dad," I greeted. "Hey, Daisy! Good morning dear," he replied. I went straight into the kitchen to look for what to eat. My tummy was making funny noises. The pots were empty and I saw some dirty plates in the sink. Looks like the bigger ladies had quaker oats for breakfast. I hated that meal with passion. It looked like spirogyra in white colour. I washed up the plates and opened the fridge. There was goldenmorn, cornflakes, a packet of spaghetti, bread, milk, milo, fruit juice and sugar with jam, butter and Bama. I hurriedly mixed up a meal of goldenmorn and smeared some jam on slices of bread. "Daisy?" Dad called from the parlour. "Yes, Dad?" I yelled in reply. "Are you trying to eat before having your morning bath?" He asked. "Uhmm..no Dad. Am washing up the plates that Mum left in the sink," I replied, my mouth full of bread and jam. I made myself a hot cup of coffee and settled down to eat. I'm not allowed to drink coffee, but I normally sneak to drink it. With plenty of creamy milk, it's even sweeter than tea. "Daisy?" my dad called again. Cheii! This man! "Yes, Daddy!" "Please, hurry up with the washing and have your bath. I'm having visitors and I dont want you coming out with your nightie, OK?" I didnt bother replying. I hated being left alone with Dad. He always had something to nag about. I finished up my sumptuous breakfast and headed to my bathroom. Àfter bathing, I dressed up in a simple blue gown. While I was cleaning up my room, I heard the doorbell ring. "Daisy...?" Dad called. Arghh..talk of the devil! I rushed to see who the visitor was, really hoping that it was one of my aunties. Dad was the only son of his family with six sisters. I liked all of them because they always came with good news and reassuring presents for me, especially. 4 Likes |
