There are a lot of strange and crazy hotels out there, but very few of them are as unique as the Palacio de Sal in Bolivia. You see, while most lodges are constructed from common building materials, the Palacio was instead made with one of Bolivia's most abundant resources: salt. It might sound totally nuts, but the photos prove that this place is legitimate. It's just hard to look at them without getting thirsty... Almost everything in the hotel--- from the walls, to the floors, and even the beds--- is made from salt. 2 Shares

It might be weird at first, but when you consider that it sits on the largest salt flat in the world, the Salar de Uyuni, the choice in construction material isn't such a huge surprise.

The hotel took around two years to build using about a million 35-centimeter salt blocks.

But don't let the odd materials fool you--- this place is well- designed, and it honestly doesn't look too different from many other hotels.

The original hotel, built in 1997, didn't even have a shower. When it was rebuilt in 2007, all the amenities of a normal hotel were added... plus a sauna and a saltwater pool.

The hotel also offers meals that include "Chicken a la Sal" and various regional meats.
