Mr President You have spoken well.

But happen to the just concluded batch one SURE-P TVET(Technical and Vocational Entrepreneurial Training) programme that took place in Lagos, Abuja and Port harcourt. The promise of empowering or securing job for them has not been fulfilled and they are back to the labour market.

How do they put the skills acquired into good use or how would they acquired more skills and experience if they are not empowered/secure job as promised. we want the president to fulfill the promise of empowering/securing job placement for them.

We still believe its possible.
we believe in our president's Transformation Agenda
On behalf of SURE-P TVET
Lagos

President Goodluck Jonathan has told government establishments that it is ‘total waste’ for them to train Nigerians without giving them jobs.

Mr. Jonathan said this on Wednesday in Abuja during the inaugurations of a jobs board to be headed by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

“I have observed over a period that agencies of government are more interested in training,” Mr. Jonathan said “My conviction is that if you train 100 people and none of them is either self employed or employed by any corporation; that is a total waste.”

The president also listed some adverse effects of training Nigerians without creating employment for them.

“You are rather frustrating more people and probably increasing the number of criminals in the society,” he said. “I always say that if you train a young man as a fitter and he has no job to do, he or she will use that skill to break into banks, because you have trained him on how to handle iron and how to handle complicated locks.”

The president urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, of government involved in job training to go further by creating employment opportunities for their trainees. He listed some of such MDAs as the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, Industrial Training Fund, ITF, and the National Directorate of Employment, NDE.

The president said it is better to train 20 people and use the money for 80 others to create employment for the 20 trained instead of training 100 people and none of them gets a job.

“It is not just how many people you train, but how many people you have given employment through that training programme,” he said.

Mr. Jonathan also said the Presidential Jobs Board of Nigeria will help create jobs for millions of unemployed Nigerians.

The 31-member board comprising government officials and the private sector would be headed by Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The board, described by Mr. Jonathan as a special purpose vehicle, was charged with the responsibility of facilitating employment generation across the country.

“No one can deny that jobs are at the centre of economic revolution. In fact, the problem facing any head of government all over the world is Job creation,” Mr. Jonathan said. “Jobs are essential to make our people live well and they are critical to the promotion of our people’s dignity. Jobs enhance self worth and it is a source of personal pride. Indeed, it is at the heart of national economic and social development.’’

According to the president, the board is carefully constituted to include key members of the public and the private sector to ensure that it can draw on the cross expertise of people in government as well as those in private enterprise.

Mr. Jonathan, who expressed confidence in the ability of the board members to deliver on their assignment, urged them to take the assignment seriously.

Responding, Mr. Sambo thanked the President for the initiative, which he said would address the challenge of unemployment in the country.

The vice president said that the committee’s target was to create three million new jobs for Nigerians in the next 12 months, and pledged the commitment of the board members to the assignment.

In her remarks, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, said that the President had brought together private sector financiers and a mix of key public sector players on the board.

Mrs. Alison-Madueke said that in the last three years, the petroleum ministry focused on providing Nigerians with the tools they needed to secure jobs in the oil and gas sector, which she said was mystified before now.

She said “we have brought in Nigeria content so strongly that at no time in Nigeria’s history have you seen this number of Nigerians across the spectrum of expertise coming into the oil and gas sector.

“They did not need to be petroleum engineers or even geologists. They only needed to have the abilities to learn and come at different levels into the entire spectrum of the downstream service sector of the oil and gas.

“As you all know, it has been a great success and it is now being repeated across other sectors of the economy.

“As we concentrate on increasing gas supply in tandem with the Ministry of Power, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, we will change the face of the economy in its entirety.’’

According to her, government is simultaneously looking to ensure that Nigeria has gas for industrialisation.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the board, Tony Elumelu, said that the board was encouraged by the various policies put in place by the Federal Government in its transformation agenda.

Mr. Elumelu said that with the policies in place in housing, power, ICT, housing mortgage, oil and gas sectors, creating three million jobs would not be difficult.

“Kenya created over 700,000 jobs within one year, what has encouraged us to be part of it is the transformation initiatives of the Federal Government.

“We are happy that we have the Minister of Petroleum Resources here among us who has played a strong role in the transformation from the point of view of indigenisation, bringing in Nigerian players in the oil and gas sector.’’

Mr. Elumelu assured that the board would train Nigerians to ensure they were employable.

Other members of the board include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, as well as the ministers of agriculture, labour and productivity.

The truth of the matter is that our economists have failed us in suggesting to us new ways of solving unemployment.

Most of them still keep stressing on skills acquisition and agriculture without asking themselves why these two paths chosen have not curtail rising unemployment.

The truth is that these economists have made GEJ, Fashola, Akpabio and other outstanding leaders look clueless and dumb in the face of unemployment.

It is time our economists
keep away their books and study our economy to see how best it can be developed. Text book knowledge has failed us the way it has failed us in our struggle against BH.

Without wisdom , the most honest leaders are bound to fail eg Ojukwu and Buhari are good examples.

Coming from a man whose administration saw the scamming of innocent unemployed Nigerians Graduates with non-existing Immigration Jobs. Nobody employed. Money not refunded. 17 killed. No official resigned. None prosecuted. And the same administration is here acting as if it was sworn in yesterday - Mr. Jonathan it is 5 years of no jobs!

Following from Mr President's statement, life is just the same after Sure-p sponsored TVET training in Lagos. A good training but what's the use, no grants, nothing, I hope this message reaches the presidency

We are blessed with clueless leaders because we are generally clueless people. Can you imagine the OP quoting the repugnant news as evidence of the phantom transformation agenda. That is an example of clueless citizen dancing naked on the alter of mediocrity.

How can a sane person say this:
The president said it is better to train 20 people and use the money for 80 others to create employment for the 20 trained instead of training 100 people and none of them gets a job.

How logical is it to keep 80% of your people without marketable skills at Almajiri level as a state policy? This explains the reasons Nigerians prefer bricklayers, tilers and other artisan from Togo and Ghana to our own as government is training only 20% it can provide jobs for. No wonder when Dangote establishes cement plants, petrochemical plants, he has to employ Indians and Filipinos as technicians and technologist who have been empowered by their own government educational institutions.

While the 80% untrained and 20% half trained Nigerians continue to roam the street or are under-employed in government created jobs. Today Indians trained en-mass by government institutions are all over the world earning a good living, sending remittances to the local economy driving investment rather than been useless and ready army for militants.

By the standard of this statement by Mr. President, the investment of about 40% of budget of the Western Nigeria government is a waste, even when we see the returns evidently.

Another 4 years of this president with his warped logic will do serious violence to our values and competitiveness as a country. A people the say deserves the leadership they get.

Goodday to u all,

One could say Mr President has said and touched the mind of yearning Nigerian youth who has over the years almost or completely lost faith in the MOTHERLAND(Nigeria).

It beseech one to ask what is the purpose of taking out eager and energetic youths, train them and push them into a labour market that those not have anything to offer them.

I and some very exciting and serious minded Nigerian youths just concluded a program organised by the SURE-P office of the Presidency. We were adequately drilled on establishing businesses and website creation to say a few. But at the end of the program that lasted for about 2 months, nobody from the SURE-P office deemed it fit to come address us on the last day, to gear us to up and possibly tell us what next to do. We were simply thrown out into the labour market that has no known room for us.

Mr President Sir, I feel you. We all know you can't do everything all by yourself. That is why you have MGDs, Agencies and what have you. Considering the statement you gave, which to me is very rightly strong worded, i hope the respective offices and people in-charge will deem it fit and do the needful.,without any political undertone. Because, that is part of what is giving us serious headache in this country.

Thank you Sir.

God bless Nigeria.

Abubakar Lateef A.

NB; For those of us who has been trained and treated this way, please what is the way forward. Also if possible we should look at how to galvanize discerning and
serious minded youths to engage the Government constructively on the plight of the NIGERIAN YOUTHS.

I guess you guys are still fresh from school and have little idea how societies develop. If you know about the thousands of position for code qualified welders, fitters, machinists etc occupied by Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Indonesians to the detriment of mostly poorly trained or untrained nigerian artisans you will weep. I am talking of positions with monthly pay ranging from $ 3,000 - $5,000, with Nigerians mainly excluded due to clueless policies like the one Mr. Jona is promoting and dudes at the recieving end like you are hailing him for. OP even said he is taking him for his word as if he has any track record of keeping to any promise or agreement.

This just 2015 campaign strategy. Someone who couldn't create 5 thousand jobs for over 4yrs in power wants to create 3 million Jobs between now and february. Meanwhile what happened to Immigration Job seekers? Have the families of those who lost their children been provided with jobs as promised by the PDP led federal govt? These are all lies.

Like i said we can only hope for a better Nigeria, what can an average Nigerian do in situations like this? wen we are still trying to make changes in our individual lives. we can only talk, rant, implore the government to effect visible changes that will affect every citizen of this country

All what we hear from past and present government is "The government will..., the government has.." with nothing to show for it.

My question is ...
is there anyone that still have the mind of the masses in the government?
