Resignation & PILON: To Pay Or Not To Pay. by Apexand: 1:38pm On Sep 13, 2014
I'm about to leave a job in which I had been poorly paid for five years. I have only one week before joining the new company. Although I have a clause in my appointment letter which says either party (the company or myself) have to give a month's notice when terminating the appointment OR pay a month's salary in lieu of notice(PILON), I have wanted to tell the company in my resignation letter to remove the PILON from my 2 years leave money(Have not gone on leave in the past two years).

Also, if I should decide to pay, do I pay my full month's salary or just the basic pay? I have been giving differing opinions.

Pay the pilon(payment in lieu of notice). You could need a reference in the future from present employer.
