Gilead Specialist Hospital was wedged between a big eatery and Law hub. Tobi parked his Explorer in a spot meant for doctors and rushed to the back to help Bolu get her mum out of the car. He had called to check if Dr Emma was available; he was.

Inside the hospital's aqua-blue waiting room, a heavy-set woman with fearful eyes clutched a squalling baby and snuck worried glances at the doctors' consulting rooms. Another woman was wheeled to the elevator while about ten other paople with various degrees of illnesses waited to be called into the consulting rooms.

Tobi and Bolu supported madam ty amid protests from her. "I can walk, let me walk" madam ty's protests hit the walls. The receptionist recognizing Tobi, walked up to them. She was cute and very clean in her white overalls.

"Dr Emma will see you after the patient he is attending to now" she told Tobi, moving closer to madam ty to check the severity of her condition.

She pulled out the Serikis' family file but Tobi waved her off as she approached them with it.
"Open a new file, Aunty" he said and they were directed to the nurses' station. By this time, madam ty had become almost as strong as she was before she set out from her house in the morning. Despite her obvious recovery, Tobi insisted on her seeing the doctor. They were ushered into Dr Emma's consulting room. He checked her blood pressure and had a an alarming look on his face when he was done taking it the second time.

"Extremely high", he said. "She needs to stay back here so we can monitor her"

Before Bolu or her mum could say a word in consent or protest, Tobi gave the dr the go ahead to admit the patient. They were lead into an airy white room with beautiful drapes and a 24" tv. The nurse helped madam ty settle in her bed and switched on thee tv. She flipped the channels and settled on a channel showing a nollywood blockbuster and left as the Doctor entered the room to administer the necessary drugs and iv.

Bolu and Tobi looked on as the doctor did his work with the help of another nurse. "Let her rest", he told the them."Something must have triggered this. Bad news, shocking news even extremely good news could have hiked the blood pressure".

Bolu starred at Tobi the whole time, not minding if he noticed.
"So, did something happen today or recently?" Tobi asked innocently.

Unable to keep her emotions bottled up any longer, Bolu lashed out with tears in her voice "yes, Tobi. Something. Happened. You-" she caught herself before saying too much. She wiped her face with the sleeves of her blue shirt and Tobi helped her tuck it back in.
"I what?" Tobi asked
"Ok, we were coming to see your dad...it's all complicated Tobi" she sighed and sat at the edge of the bed.
" I think you should see Dr Smart, your mum's friend"

"Dr Smart?" Tobi asked in surprise
"Yes, Dr Smart".
"And you can't give me an idea of what to ask her?"
"Nope, she'll tell you all you need to know once you mention I told you to come"

Tobi paced up and down in restlessness. When he could no longer hold it, he touched madam ty's head as if checking her temperature. She slept on soundly.
"I'll be right back, Bolu. I have to get ready for a trip to US and I still need to talk to my dad. Now I can't do any of that till I see Dr Smart"

"Just be careful sha" Bolu advised as he opened the door and disappeared into the long corridor.

"Where is your brother?" Madam ty asked soon as she opened her eyes from the drug induced sleep.
"Well, I directed her to Dr Smart when he was asking me questions"
"Why Bolu?" She asked, concern written on her weak face.
"Mum, let him hear it and we'll see how he reacts. He is travelling to US tonight"
"Ha! US ke?" Madam ty managed to sit up on her bed. "Mo gbe o, who will help me now?" She cried
"Maami, he may not travel after seeing Dr Smart" she consoled her mum.

Despite the doctor's warning, madam ty cried uncontrollably until a matron threatened to inject her with sleeping drug that will keep her asleep for 48hours.

I don't think madam ty will feel that way o! Looking at your child calling another 'mother' can be heart breaking. Though I understand it may affect him psychologically.

You are right on track. No one would be happy with such news.
Psychologically, he'll find it hard to come to terms with. After twenty five years, you discover the mother you have known is not your mother.
He may even drink himself to death. But I trust candy. She'll do justice to this masterpiece.

Tobi was surprised to see his mum's car parked behind Dr Smart's Rav 4 at the parking area reserved for the hospital's four doctors. Dr Smart owned and built the hospital from scratch and ten years on, it had become a big place sprawling with rich clients and companies retainerships.

He parked his car at the only available space and walked briskly inside the hospital. At the waiting area, he paused to ask after Dr Smart.
"She's busy with a patient sir", one of the young nurses attended to him.

"I'll wait here". He sat on one of the straight backed chairs in the waiting area.
The nurse said something to the receptionist who in turn dialed Dr Smart's office.
"You can go to her office now", she said. He walked straight to her office, he's been there a few times before. He knocked and pushed the door in without waiting for an invitation.

"Hello, Tobiloba", Dr Smart greeted. They've not met since the Amber incident and they've only spoken on phone once or twice since. "Sit down", she pointed to a vacant seat in front of her.
"Where is my mum? I saw her car parked outside"

Just then, the toilet door opened and Mrs Seriki entered. The plan was for her to hide in the toilet while Dr Smart quickly discharged Tobi without divulging any information. But she knew it wasn't going to work, especially with the new claim of bornagain of Dr Smart and her insisting on telling the truth.

"I was in the toilet, son. What brought you here?" She asked defensively, before he could ask her the same question. Tobi was smart enough to avoid going into why's and how's with his mother. He had left her at the office about an hour ago, enough time to drive down and pay her friend a visit. What baffled him though was the fact that Dr Smart and his mum were barely talking these days.

"Bolu's mum is lying ill at the hospital", Tobi told the women.

"Really? " Both women chorused in unison
"Apparently, she's hypertensive and she's been under pressure lately...that brings me to why I'm here ma" he faced Dr Smart, who had tensed up considerably.

"Yes, what is it Tobi?" She asked, sitting at the edge of her executive chair.

"Bolu said something about you being privy to the issue troubling her mother" he looked at Dr Smart, expecting an answer.
"Em...em...em..." She couldn't say anything. She was torn between staying true to her conscience and helping out her friend.

"I don't think they've met before, son. Maybe she's making things up" mrs seriki offered her suggestion. "I'll be going now, we'll talk later" she picked up her gold handbag and left for the door, but not before she gave Dr Smart a 'be very careful, I'm warning you' look.

As soon as she left, Dr Smart heaved a sigh of relief. She offered Tobi the seat facing her and he sat down, albeit anxiously.

"Tobi, take good care of that woman" Dr Smart said with tears in her eyes.

Even more worried now, Tobi moved closer to her and offered her a tissue from the box sitting on her desk.
"What's the connection ma?" He asked

"Please talk to Hel...your mother, she understands everything." Dr Smart told him. "I'm a new creature, Tobi. I have lost so much in so short a time and it had brought me closer to my maker" she continued

"Hmmm, it is well ma" tobi said, hoping she'll continue and she did.

"Tobi, are you even aware that Amber's legs were amputated above the knees?" She asked Tobi.

Not wanting to appear selfish, he hid his lack of interest in the new turn the issue was taking. "Sorry ma" he offered genuinely. He felt slightly guilty for not showing more concern over Amber's plight, afterall they once had something going. But this is not the time for sober reflections, he thought.

"She's been in and out of rehab due to her addiction to drugs. Her sister is no better, she's In jail" she wiped tears off her face. "While seeking the face of God when the pressure was too much, I had an encounter with God and I got a chrystal clear instruction to confess my sins" she concluded.

"Ok ma, sorry about everything. But how does this connect with Bolu's mum?" He asked

"Hmmm, that you will ask your mum" she said. "I have patients waiting Tob"i. She stood up and Tobi followed suit. She walked him to the door and just before she closed it behind him, she paused and looked him in the eye one more time before saying, "Tobi, I meant it when I said you should take very good care of Adebimpe".

Without waiting for him to respond, she gently shut the door in his face. She had not lied, she managed to convince herself. though she regretted not having the courage to answer Tobi's question.

Even more confused than ever, Tobi drove like a possessed maniac, racing after his mum who was long gone. He drove straight to the compound of 'the compass builders'. Not finding his mum's car in her designated space, he scanned the whole parking space, even the visitors' car park but didn't find her car.

Now furious, he drove straight to Gilead Specialist to see madam ty. It was 11.45am and he was running out of time if he still had to board a flight from Lagos at night. Unfortunately, he couldn't leave Bolu and his mum in their condition.

He banged his fist on the steering in frustration, blaring his horn without care. Finally, he pulled up at Gilead Specialist hospital, locked his car and raced to the ward, two steps at once. He tried to inhale and exhale as he got to the first floor where Bolu's mum was admitted. He could see room 12 from where he stood and he noticed the door was partially closed. Having regained his breath, he strolled down to the room.

Just as he was about to knock and push the door open, he heard slightly raised voices from the room.

"Are you ready to cooperate?" He heard his mum's voice
"Yes ma, we will. Just leave us alone ma. We didn't tell him anything at all" he heard Bolu say

He pushed the door open in annoyance and faced his mum.
"Enough mum. What is going on here? Why are you intimidating them?"

"Hello son", She said undisturbed
"Bolu, what's going on here? Pls tell me" he faced Bolu.

"Nothing, Tobi" she assured him.
He faced madam ty who appeared to be even more frail than he was when she slumped at the office.

"What have you done to this woman?" He asked his mum
She didn't answer. Instead, she took a long look at madam ty and shook her index finger in warning and made for the door.

"Where do you think you are going, mum?" Tobi blocked her exit.
"Tobi! Are you raising your voice at your mum?" She asked in alarm
"Yes ma, unless you tell me why you hate this woman this much" he fired back

Not knowing how she got the courage, Bolu stood up from the edge of the bed where she sat, and faced Tobi.
"Tobi Seriki, what did Dr Smart tell you?" She asked
"She didn't tell me anything".
"Ok, what she told my mum was that 26 years ago my mum was a lowly maid in your house who got impregnated by an unknown man, had a set of twins. I'm a twin"

"And what happened to the other twin?" He asked innocently.
"That's what we are all trying to find out, Tobi. Apparently, mrs Seriki and Dr Smart were there when she had them"

He faced his mum, "mum, what happened to the other twin?"

Mrs Seriki shoved him aside and forced her way out of the room.

"I don't get this at all", Tobi said in confussion.

Mrs Seriki drove out of the hospital in a blind fury. She was so angry she didn't look out for traffic before she joined the express. She drove straight into an oncoming vehicle at top speed. She was rushed back into the premises of Gilead Specialist Hospital on a stretcher, flanked by ER nurses and doctors.

I think she went to the hospital because she was smart enough to know that Tobi won't go on the trip till he knew what was going on. She must also have known that Dr Smart wasn't going to tell him the truth. She had to rush down to instill some fear in the mama and daughter so that they'll be too scared to attend to him...
