Nigeria'sn17.4b Satellite Fails Again:can't Find Image For Missing Air Force Jet by siraj1402(m): 9:08pm On Sep 15, 2014
The Nigerian satellite NigeriaSat 1,2and 3 has again failed to detect the missing Air Force Alpha jet  72 hours after leaving its base in Yola, Adamawa state, on what was described as a "routine operational mission" at about 10:45 am (0945 GMT) on Friday and had been expected back by midday the same day.

In the wake of the kidnapping of over 200 girls in Chibok, Borno State the satellite imaging systems also failed in picking Satellite sightings of the missing girls or the Boko Haram sect’s movements in the North East.  It is believed that the Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited the body in charge of the NigeriaSat 1,2and 3 have not been visible in the search for the missing school girls.

According to Air Marshal Adesola Nunayon Amosu on Monday, the search crew hampered by poor weather will definitely locate the aircraft and the pilots before the end of the week. "It is in the Sahel, we know the area and its a challenge as a tree can look like a human in that region".

Per Second News also gathered that the military also faces the challenge of not being able to fly low altitude due to activities of terrorists in the area. It is believed that the Boko Haram sect might be in possession of a Ground to air missile launcher, GTAM that can bring down an aircraft.

Nigeria did not immediately exploit the capability of its satellites to search for the missing girls and the missing Military aircraft, according to a  scientist in Washington.

This was one of several potential problems raised by researchers, who are as frustrated as the public in the over $17 billion NIGCOMSAT project. Per Second News gathered that the multibillion Naira Satellites seems to have packed up years ago, immediately after being launched.

The spacecraft operated by the Nigerian Communication Satellite Ltd (NIGCOMSAT) has failed to perform since launching according to a source.  On November 11, 2008, NigComSat-1 failed in orbit after running out of power due to an anomaly in its solar array.

Per Second News gathered that the Nigerian Communication Satellite Limited initially told Nigerians that it switched off the Satellite for analysis and to avoid a possible collision with other satellites, and it intentionally put it into "emergency mode operation in order to effect mitigation and repairs".

The satellite company was put to shame a day later when eventually the satellite failed to work after losing power on 11 November 2008 and was off the orbit.

The Chinese made satellite was based on DFH bus, and carries a variety of Chinese transponders and able to cover the whole of Nigeria, parts of Africa and Italy according to the contractors.

In what researchers now call a scam seems to have started in 2011 when  Nigeria's national space policy was initially approved in 2001 by the Obasanjo’s administration and culminated in the launch of the country’s first satellite, NigeriaSat-1, in 2003.

The initial contract to build the satellite was signed in 2004. It became the first African geosynchronous communication satellite when it was launched in May 2003.

Some experts speaking to Per Second News doubt the ‘Satellite Launch’ project and its capabilities, according to a SSTL engineer,  "The high resolution satellite launched by Nigeria has the capacity to greatly enhance image data available not only to the Disaster Monitoring Constellation, but should be helpful in the search for the girls, and any missing aircraft in Nigeria airspace”.

Last month, Per Second News report that officials of the  United States Government considered a request by Nigeria to provide surveillance aircraft, intelligence and satellite imaging systems to find the missing school girls.

"The Nigerians have asked for assistance in that area and we are considering it," Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. assistant-secretary of State for African Affairs, said last month in Washington, indicating that the Nigeria satellite system might have packed up after all.

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), in 2011 said that the Nigerian satellite was also being used to monitor the oil-rich Niger Delta, where there has been massive crude oil theft and environmental damage from oil spills, yet to date no oil thieves or their activities has been captured by the Satellite image systems.

According to Seidu Mohammed, Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) at that time said that "We've just collected images over Mali, which we've handed over to the armed forces because we believe they will be helpful to them in the peacekeeping mission over there."

The Alpha Jet was designed and manufactured by Germany's Dornier and Dassault-Breguet of France in the 1970s as a training and tactical support aircraft.
