OK.. it took me a looooong time to admit this embarassed

I'm in the university and how I managed to come this far is the 9th wonder of the world..

Dear Nairalanders, it is becoming a problem as I'm getting older..

When I was younger, all I had to do was be present in a particular class and I could remember almost everything verbatim and now its just off... and I can't even look into a text or note. It scares me cause I might be forgetting important stuffs in the exam hall..

Not like I get distracted when I read but the letters on the book just starts dancing when I'm looking at em..

Please if anyone has useful advice.. or explanation... I could use some #helpASister sad

I wonder if you've seen the Indian movie Like Stars on Earth (Taare Zameen Par), I'm bringing it up only because it's about dyslexia. You maybe dyslexic my dear, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. You're not the only one and it's not your fault. I recommend you read about the symptoms of dyslexia and if the description fits your condition then you may want to get professional help.

Your op implied that this has been a "looooong" standing problem and not something that just surfaced. Anyway, I don't think dyslexia just pops out in adulthood. But you should do your research sha.

Okay..

When I'm reading (intensive reading) at some point the letters just get messed up like "If becomes It" then if I force myself to read further I start seeing words as in the mirror.. everything gets mixed up and I can't comprehend what I'm looking at. I Often spend a lot of time staring at one word, get a headache and go to sleep.
Other times it just gets blurry.

If you truly have dyslexia, then its a mild one.

Believe me, I know a lady here on Nairaland suffering from severe dyslexia, she can't even write comprehensively or coherently.
And I think for you to have gotten this far, I believe yours is very manageable.

There could be a defect in your brain's processing of graphic symbols.

I can't unequivocally say it's genetic dyslexia but definitely you've got a neurological disorder.

I doubt if there is an instant cure for this. Seeing a Specialist is just the way to go, they would have more significant help to offer you.

And mind you, this flaw doesn't make you any less special. You can still achieve academic success being dyslexic, all you need do is work on yourself, choose the best time to read and study, give your brain a big rest after a torrid day, avoid alcohols and the intake of substances that contain nicotine and morphine.

You smack as one that stays up all nite having fun or even studying, you have to avoid that, at least for the sake of your brain.

Einstein, Tom Cruise, John Lennon, Leonardo Da Vinci etc are/were all dyslexic but that didn't stop them from being greats. Not too late for you too bae.

yeah. It usually happens too.

This is what i do, once it start getting blurry or hard for me to comprehend what i am reading.
It's either i start skimming, like glancing through the pages and picking essential points not trying to understand yet.
OR i leave it, relax, play a game or chat or do something interesting. By then my brain would have been refreshed, and then i return back to read the book. And it works.

Try reading interesting stuffs first for a habit then go on ot other stuffs wen u develop more interest in reading. Or better still, since u are a uni student convert ur phone into a recorder n record everythin a lecturer says in class. It would help cos u wud wanna make references when you. Find things u don't understand from the recording
