Who pays for the wedding? The Groom or the Bride's family? |
Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by Morenike3(f): 4:27am On Nov 02, 2008 |
The groom. She's marrying into his family. She's losing her last name for his. His family is now her closest family. Long story short, she's losing her Identity for his. |

I've always heard it's the bride's family. Everyone knows that. In reality though, the family who's organizing the majority of the wedding pays for the wedding. |

By all means, it has to be the GROOM. I won't take a penny from the bride's family for ma wedding whether they like it or not. Only men with bras would allow such. 1 Like |

depends on the tribe/culture, think the groom in igbo/ibo culture but the bride's family in a yoruba wedding, the groom usually supports though if the bride's family is not financially buoyant and most times the groom's family throw a party of their own and in addittion the groom pays for his suit and the wedding gown, wedding and engagement rings |

Engagement party is the bride family The wedding party is the groom family I think |
Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by Sauron1: 10:35pm On Nov 02, 2008 |

Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by whatever90(f): 10:40pm On Nov 02, 2008 |

Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by tope2000(f): 10:43pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
~Sauron~: I'm talking about venue, food, drinks the whole lots because the groom's parent goes to the bride's parent to ask for their daughter's hand in marriage so they will be one to entertain and welcome them but wedding, the groom n family pays for that because they are taking the bride away so they need to do the entertaining @jenny in yoruba culture, its not like that |

Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by Sauron1: 10:45pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
tope2000: I am yoruba but i won't take a penny from the bride's family. If they wish to organise their own private party, fyne by me but the engagement party and the wedding expenses shall be from ma pocket. |

Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by whatever90(f): 10:50pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
yoruba culture or not,its wrong, seriously cos d guy is supposed to be in charge of all dat,he saw d girl he wants to marry,so why should her parents be stressing themselves wt drinks food and stuffs like dat it should be d groom and his family, then if d girls parents wanna help out,no problem imagine d guy engaging d girl, and then d girls family hosting the engagement party dats sthg else |
Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by tope2000(f): 10:52pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
whatever90: i honestly i agree but thats how its been done |
Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by Sauron1: 10:52pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
tope2000: Be happy cos it could be you. chika98: It gives the groom a say. I have been to engagement parties where the bride's family insisted on NO ALCOHOL policy. The friends of the groom were so pissed but there was nuthing the groom could do. . . . If the expenses were from his pockets, i doubt such policy would exist. Why won't ma buddies sip some cristal on the happiest day of me life?? No chance!!! |
Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by chika98: 10:55pm On Nov 02, 2008 |

Re: Who Pays For The Wedding? by KarmaMod(f): 11:05pm On Nov 02, 2008 |
It's not Yoruba culture. They do it in the "West" too. Some parents have separate account JUST for the expenses of the daughter's wedding. Its showing to the "world" the "level" the daughter is coming from. Better than bankrupting the dude from the beginning. Let him use his money for the honeymoon and house. |
