The phenomenon of bone struck in throat is actually caused by the contraction of wall muscles of the throat which caused the bone to get stabbed into it.

The discomfort caused by it is a lot. Person will feel irritated throughout and may even feel like vomiting. Sometimes you may not feel it while normal talking but when using certain phrase or words it hurts. Here in this article, I have tried to describe certain steps to get rid of such a horrific situation.

But remember, all these methods to be tried out only if there is no bleeding and the pain is bearable. Otherwise a doctor’s advice is the best way. But if things are under control, I suggest using these methods one by one or multiple times to get rid of that bone from your throat.

The first common method is obviously examining the exact location of the problem. Standing in front of a mirror or getting some help will do. Using a flashlight try to find the bone if possible. Most of the time, it may not be possible as it might have gone much below the throat.
The Second method is another common one where you have to drink lots of water and preferable with a pinch of salt added to it. Most of the small fish bones will get dislodged from throat and will reach your stomach.
The third method is quite common in Asian countries where people swallow some “solid food” to get rid of it. The solid food generally is a small ball shaped boiled rice, banana or bread. This causes the fish bone to get struck with the solid food and then it moves down to your stomach. But do not forget to drink a glass of water after that.
The forth method is a common one use is China, where people drink diluted Vinegar. Vinegar will soften the fish bone and thus it becomes very easy to dislodge it from your throat. But medically it is not an effective method as the amount of acetic acid is too small in vinegar to soften the bone.
Fifth method is the “old wives tale” where people drink orange juice or lemon juice to remove fish bone. The citric acid is believed to do the same trick of softening the bone.
Another method followed in some countries to get rid of fishbone is to drink some olive oil. This will help the bone to slide down the throat as well as you will feel relieved by the soothing effect of olive oil in the minor cuts in your throat caused by the bone.
Lastly the “modern method” will consist of drinking some coke. Coke will exactly do the same thing as suggested in the above two methods, i.e. softening the bone.
It is also believed that there are some very effective homeo medicines to get rid of foreign particles from your body. Medicines like Hepar Sulph or Silica 200 are really effective in this case.

At the same time, there are some suggestions regarding what not to be done during such a case. Avoid coughing or straining your throat as it might pierce the bone further into esophagus.

Moreover do not try to push or massage the throat externally with your hand as the fish bone can get jammed.

Fish bone struck in your throat is really irritating and causes a lot of discomfort.
