Ebola Virus Disease: Osun Schools To Resume October 6th by nicholasis(m): 9:16am On Sep 21, 2014
in Osun State has now been orderd not to open 2014/2015 academic session and scheduled to open on the 6th October, 2014. This directives was contained in a statement endorsed by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, (state Commissioner for Education) and was made available to the press people in Osogbo on Thursday. The statement that contained directives states that Gov. Rauf Aregbesola had directed all public and private schools not to open till 6th of october 2014 and this directives binds on 2014/2015 academic session . ‘’The reason for this decision is to enable principals and teachers to receive adequate training and awareness programs to help prevent Ebola Virus within the school premises and in the state in general,’’ the deputy-governor revealed.

He urged the school managers to ensure daily practical demonstration of hand washing by the pupils, students and teachers and regular monitor of students. We also gathered that The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Lawrence Oyeniran, disclosed that government had met with stakeholders on how to avoid the deadly disease.

“ this program is very important because children will be coming from different homes, it becomes relevant that teachers are given the basic knowledge on how to prevent the outbreak of the deadly disease. “Apart from equipting and updating them on basic health management issues, they will be taught how to assist students to improve on personal hygiene. “Two health workers will be deployed to each school, and for them to work effectively, we have bought hand thermometers for their use.

“We have to be very observant and these thermometers will be used to check the temperature of every student as they come into the school premises and make sure any one who has high temperature or signs of fever will be examined and asked to leave in other to receive medical attention before coming back for classes .
