mr op no vex- I like helping people with small mbwhen celebrities smile and
pose for the cameras on the
red carpet, we think they are
Angels on an earthly mission but
below the smile and elegance
they inspire us with lies secret
pains that birth tears when they
are in their closet. This story
is just one of such.
Former Miss World Agbani Darego
shares her most kept secret and
pain.
When Agbani Darego ascended the
stage of “Native and Vogue”, a
fashion event which held in
Port-Harcourt on Sunday,
September 21, a teary-eyed
Darego who a lot of people had
anticipated would model one of
the designs of the several
clothiers available instead
explained why she was very
emotional on the night before
forging ahead on a tale of the
pains she has been going through
for years due to Endometriosis.
According to the beauty queen,
being able to have a child is a
big deal in Africa, it is the
pride of a woman and children
are the pride of any mother. She
went on to reveal to an
astonished and speechless
audience that she had done over
12 surgeries to correct her
reproductive system, lost one of
her ovaries and currently has a
blocked fallopian tube all
because of Endometriosis.
Darego, concluded her speech
saying she had gone to Kenya and
several other countries to
create awareness on the disease
and hopes when she comes to
Nigeria she would be well
received. She also begged people
and organisations to create
awareness about Endometriosis
saying some people don’t even
know they have it. She further
highlighted chronic back pain,
menstrual disorder among others
as symptoms of Endometriosis.
This perhaps explains why the
isle-bound relationship between
Darego and Timi Alaibe crashed
years back when the former
sought to take Darego as wife to
fill the void left by his
deceased wife. Darego, is not
the first celebrity to suffer
this illness which is fast
becoming synonymous with models,
as beauty queen, Nike Oshinowo,
is known to have suffered same
fate before opting to have
children via a surrogate mother
at the age of 47. Endometriosis,
is a gynecological condition in
which cells from the lining of
the uterus (endometrium) appear
and flourish outside the uterine
cavity, most commonly on the
membrane which lines the
abdominal cavity, the
peritoneum. The uterine cavity
is lined with endometrial cells,
which are under the influence of
female hormones. Endometrial
cells in areas outside the
uterus are also influenced by
hormonal changes and respond in
a way that is similar to the
cells found inside the uterus.
Symptoms of endometriosis are
pain and infertility. The pain
often is worse with the
menstrual cycle and is the most
common cause of secondary
dysmenorrhea. Endometriosis was
first identified by Baron Carl
von Rokitansky in 1860.
