THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State, has set up a nine-man committee to lead the party’s negotiation and liaise with the presidency over the planned defection of the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, from Labour Party (LP) to the PDP.

Members of the committee included the chairman of the party in the state, Ebenezer Alabi, the party’s governorship candidate in the last election, Chief Olusola Oke, Senator Bode Olajumoke, former Defense Minister, Tokunbo Kayode, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Gbenga Elegbeleye and the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku.

Others are former Information Commissioner in the state, Eddy Olefeso, the national deputy youth leader of the party, Dennis Alonge-Niyi, among others.

Elegbeleye, who disclosed this to newsmen in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state, said the committee had the mandate of interfacing with the national secretariat of the party and the presidency over the defection of the governor.

Speaking on the agitation over sharing of positions in the advent of the defection of the governor, Elegbeleye said there was no iota of truth in the rumour that a party wanted 70 per cent.

He said: “the noise about 70/30 is just street talks, there has not been any discussion about who gets what’s. The governor is yet to defect to the PDP. It is only when he comes that we can start to negotiate.”

He, however, said the planned defection of Mimiko to PDP is a blessing to the party.

He said the coming of Mimiko into the party would not rock the boat of the party in the state rather it would brighten its chances of winning the 2015 elections.

He explained that the coming of Mimiko will not cause any rancour within the party.

“I don’t see the coming of the governor affecting anything in the party,” he said.
