LOL Why do we blame floods on governors? Every time there's a flood someone will use it to try to claim the governor of the effect area isn't working? Does God only bring bad weather conditions to those that don't meet millennium development goals?

In case you need proof, floods happen everywhere there's a large body of water and low land like most of southern Nigeria and the banks of the Benue and Niger in the north

New York, US

Iowa, US

Texas, US

Killburn, UK

Helsingborg, Sweden

Sydney, Australia

I've even seen someone use an image of rain to say that a governor/state wasn't working LOL. Our people are comedians.

lol it sounds funny but it's true. We act like these pot bellied men are gods, it's so sad. People worship them and assume they're responsible for their fate, the weather, etc.

I don't support Rochas but I made this thread because he was being attacked by people in another thread because there were floods in Owerri. Most Nigerians think that their governors control their state's weather. They won't openly say it but if there's a torrential downpour of rain, it's not too soon after that you'll hear something about bad government

They don't really blame them for the flood but they blame them for not doing anything to avert the flood before and after .

there are floods and there are floods...so are inevitable, some are just waiting to happen

secondly what happens during/after the floods say much about the system..if theres a system in place to begin with!

Some floods are totally avoidable. In a case where the government does not construct a proper drainage/water channel systems which possibly could help in averting a flood, then they are to be blamed. Just like the recent/present one in India and Pakistan, they said there was a plan they had that would have reduced the flood damage or occurrence by 50-60% but the government never put it in place till it occurred.

Just like someone rightly mentioned here, SOME FLOODS ARE AVOIDABLE.

Heavy rains and the accompanying floods are typically an act of God. However, when you have a recurring flood every year at the slightest rain in a particular place, it becomes an act man attributable to man's gross negligence.

Floods in Nigeria are avoidable especially when they are not linked to overflowing of nearby rivers.

We lack good drainage systems.

It only takes 45 mins- 1 hour before some streets are flooded in Nigeria. Compare that to continuous rainfall of 18hrs before a street is flooded in UK.
