Both are important.
However, I believe that having a female child as the first child makes life easy for mothers as females are generally known to help in bringing up their younger siblings later when they arrive.

whichever comes first is still very welcomed, na person still dey wait for pikin after decades of marriage. though l think a female child being the first tends to help the parents in looking after the younger ones from a younger age.
