Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, Special Assistant to former
President Olusegun Obasanjo is dead.
The veteran journalist, who was also the former
Managing Director of The News Agency of Nigeria
died on Wednesday after a protracted illness in
London.
Remi, who is survived by her husband, Vincent Oyo
and children died at the age of 62.
Her death has thrown her former colleagues at the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) into a mourning mood.
Commenting on her death, Solomon Asowota, a staff
of NAN said: “Rest in Peace Mrs Oluremi Oyo. An
amazing woman, mother and boss. Thanks for all you
taught me. Forever in my heart”
Also commenting on her death, another former
colleague, Olisa Egbunike said, “we are going to miss
her. She came when NAN was in the locust years but
being a thoroughbred professional she was able to
move the organisation to where it is today. We are
definitely going to miss her. We however take solace
in the fact that she left a very good legacy
Prior to her appointment as Special Assistant to
President Obasanjo, she was the President of the
Guild of Editors and worked for many years with the
International Press Service .
In April 2012, Pope Benedict XVI bestowed on her the
honour of Papal Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the
Great.
