Very strange way to name a club.

A-bag-of-gworo stop deceiving yourself just to feel better whenever you run out of your pills. Anambra has over five stadia both private and public, and all of them are by far better than the useless and substandard one your useless state has in useless owerre.

Even FIFA is building another world class stadium in Anambra.

FIFA, Anambra Govt. builds international stadium

The Anambra State Government has concluded arrangements with world football governing body, FIFA, to build an international standard football stadium to boost the game’s development in the South-East.
The project is part of the ongoing FIFA Goal Project in the country, which is meant to re-enforce the development of football in rural communities.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Edozie Aroh, gave the information to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Ogidi near Onitsha on Friday.
Aroh said the government had provided a large expanse of land in Ogidi in Idemili North Council Area for the project, adding that the land was previously used by footballers for training.
“We have got approval from the state government to site an international stadium here in collaboration with FIFA through the FIFA Goal Project.
“So, soon it will come to be. We already have existing provisions, existing land which belongs to the government and which we are going to convert for the project,” he said.
The commissioner said that Ogidi was chosen because of its central location and proximity to abundant human resources as well as a good transport network.
“It is accessible to people who are needed for the project by virtue of its proximity to populous towns and cities like Nkpor, Okpoko, Awkuzu, Oba, Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi and Asaba.
“Anytime it is completed and programmes are taking place there, we expect that a lot of people will attend from within and outside the country,” he added.
Aroh said the state government was keen about the project and was following it up with FIFA.
In his contribution, the Chairman, Transition Committee of Idemili North Council, Ralph Nnabuife, lauded FIFA and the government for locating the project in Ogidi.
“It will help us a lot to contain vices among youths as well as create jobs and commerce opportunities in the council area for traders and crafts men and women.
“As you know, football today is a big profession that has huge financial benefits, and we believe our youths will take advantage of the project to better their lives,” he said.http://www.punchng.com/news/fifa-anambra-govt-to-build-international-stadium/

Even if they replace Abuja stadium's grass pitch with a synthetic one, it becomes substandard because it wouldn't be able to host some calibre of matches. Not many teams agree to play on such pitches and it kills the standard of football.

Dis tin na big disgrace o. A whole Anambra state. Really, peter obi did bad in the area of sports. FlEven from the look of things on ground, no standard stadium is under construction. The fifa goal project ish have been on since time immemorial, we can't wait on that. The stadium under construction around kwata junction in Awka looks very small and substandard. Neros stadium at Nanka seem to be the only better option for now but it's still not upto standard.
Obiano seriously needs to put this stadium issue in his to-do list.
Chino, just accept it for once that Anambra has failed in this area. Abagworo keep shining your gworo teeth. hater!

It's left for ifeanyi ubah and the management to persuade the NFL to allow them host matches at rojenny. Using Enugu as the home ground will definitely affect the team negatively. Only die-hard fans will always travel to Enugu to watch home matches.
I just hope this disgrace of Anambra not having a standard stadium ends before Obiano finishes his first tenure.

The jab is at Peter Obi who has ruled Anambra longest since 1991. That not withstanding Abia State was also created in 1991 but has CAF approved stadium and even 2 NFF approved Stadia. Both are State owned. The old Orlu Stadium in Imo was banned by NFF and a new one is under construction. The truth is that a lot remains undone after Peter Obi's 8 years.

As for Owerri there are 2 Stadia. The Owerri township Stadium and Dan Anyiam Stadium. Dan Anyiam is CAF approved. All are State owned.

The pitch at Nanka being constructed by a philantropist is amazing. Also add Rojenny. Thats one of the good things about the good Anambrians. They do not wait for Government to do everything. Igbos generally have that trait.

Do not cry so much. I am not NFF. But it is quite disheartening that an old city like Onitsha has no Stadium.

Brother, so not having a standard stadium is everything in Sports for you. Is sports even all about football? It's like saying Federal govt did bad in aviation by not having a carrier of our own.
How much do you think Anambra state could have put into a new standard stadium at that time and who will manage the stadium afterwards? Abuja stadium should come to mind. You can agree with me that the state recorded good sporting outings during Obi's regime and uptill this moment. This alone is an attestation to his efforts in sports in general, not just football.

Not having a standard sport stadium in the whole state is indeed a shameful thing. Obi spent 8 years and could have done that if he ever wanted to. If he had built a stadium, it remains there and serves the state for a very long time. The so called good outing Anambra had in sports during his tenure will amount to nothing if no effort is made to ensure continuity. That continuity is ensured when facilities like good sports stadium is in place.
Lets learn to call a spade a spade.

Abagworo or what do they call you, stop lying from the pit of hell.

Orlu stadium you and I talk about was commissioned in May 2007 by OBJ. It was used for FIFA-friendly international competitions during Ohakim's administration that ended May 29, 2011.

Rochas Okorocha came in 2011, and shortly after, he destroyed the Orlu stadium and left it to decay - till today.

In 2012, NFF banned the Orlu stadium from hosting Premier League events after Rochas Okorocha had destroyed part of the stadium and made it unsafe.

The new small thing Rochas Okorocha started to build for stadium in Okporo Orlu has hardly gone beyond foundation level since 2012.

Should priority be placed on constructing a stadium with about 15billion naira to be used to host schools' inter-house sports competitions, or revitalizing the sports that was almost dead at that period by investing in grassroot sports development with provision of basic sporting amenities as was the case during Obi's tenure? Mini stadia were constructed to boost sports and the task to grow sports in the state is a continuous process. If a whopping 15 or so billions of our naira had been spent by Obi on a new standard stadium, how much would have been left to tackle other projects? Obi did his bits and wholeheartedly entrusted Obiano with the baton to continue the race he started. Mind you, sporting outings up to the recent Benue games which Anambra came second with 82 gold, 102 silver and 119 bronze medals can still be attributed to the previous govt's inputs in sports.

Obi's regime resuscitated schools sports in the state and it has become a yearly event for all schools with rewards for winners in all categories. There has also been state sports festivals. There was the governor’s football tournament, the team that won the cup went home with N1.5 million, second placed got N1 million while the third and fourth teams went home with N500,000 and N250,000 respectively. Needless to say Obiano has continued in this line with the last one he hosted.

Anambra State won the 2012 edition of Abuja Unity Cup. The state govt sponsored them to represent Nigeria in Norway. Almost all the stadia in Anambra state have been given a facelift. Rojenny alone gulped N30million. 30 sports veterans including Mary Onyali Omagbemi and Mr. Emma Okala etc were recognized and rewarded. In the 5th National Schools Festival held in Port Harcourt, Anambra won 39 Gold, 48 Silver and 82 Bronze medals. Njika Iyiazu a gold medallist at the Paralympics event was also highly rewarded. The first female gold medallist at the 1973 National Sports Festival Mrs Loveth Onyeabo was remembered and honoured with cash award.

That's the kind of value that should be placed on sports for it to grow especially from the grassroot level and for people to appreciate it more which inturn boosts its growth.

If the report is anything to go by then its okay if its for further advancement of the infrastructural base of the state which I am sure is the rationale behind it. There are vast infrastructural development going in the state at the moment and more including the airport project will be flagged off very soon.

All these things will be forgotten in future if there are no solid physical facility to ensure continuity. What obi did in sports was just to meet temporary ends. Building standard sports facility guarantees continuity.
