Following his classy show in the month of September, the Nigerian forward has been voted by fans as the best player of the month in Major League Soccer

Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has been named Major League Soccer's Player of the Month for September following his extraordinary performance in the month for Seattle Sounders.

Martins grabbed the award after he saw off Landon Donovan of LA Galaxy, Diego Valeri of Portland Timbers, Steve Clark of Columbus Crew and Lee Nguyen of New England Revolution.

The former Inter Milan star, who was a stand out in September grabbed five goals and one assist in five games for the Rave Green.

The former Newcastle forward pulled 58.43 per cent of the votes by fans with his closest contender Donovan only garnering 13.56 percent of the votes.

The 29-year-old, has scored a total of 15 goals this season and notched up 10 assists in 23 MLS games.

Seattle Sounders are sitting atop of the Western Conference with 57 points from 23 games so far.

A goal in each half by the Nigerian ensured he got his 16th and 17th goal of the season as his team made a mince meat of Colorado Rapids in the Major League Soccer

Obafemi Martinswas on target twice for Seattle Sounders in their 4-1 win against Colorado Rapids in an American MLS match played on Sunday.
The former Levante star who had openly declared his intentions of playing for the Super Eagles again got a goal in each half of the encounter to ensure his side remains top of the league.

Martins opened the scoring in the 28th minute after slotting the ball past Rapids goalkeeper, Clinton Irwin after he was played through on goal by Marco Pappa.

With less than 2o minutes to end the game, Obagoal completed his brace with a cool finish with a right-footed strike from close range to take the score to 4-1 in favour of Sounders.

With this feat, the Nigerian now boasts of 17 goals this season while his club remains atop the Western Conference log with 60 points from 31 matches
