In the name of Allah, The Entirely Merciful, The Especially Merciful...

#Review of last week's talk

#A servant is not the same as a slave, so people should stop committing fornication in the name of '...those your right hand possess'.

#It was related by Abu Hurairah(RA) that the Prophet(PBUH) admonishes us to be charitable. However, this does not necessarily mean seeking out beggars to give them alms. The Prophet(PBUH) discourages begging as a profession and his companions(May Allah be pleased with them) were not beggars.

#The scholars must always admonish the well to do in the society to help the less-privileged within our communities. The Prophet(PBUH) admonishes us in an Hadith that the charity we give out to the less-privileged brings Allah's blessings on our wealth.

#The religious leaders should also fear Allah and ensure they distribute charity people bring to them for distribution to those really in need of them.

#A man once told the Prophet(PBUH) that he had one Dinar, the Prophet(PBUH) admonished him to spend it on himself. He then said he had another Dinar and the Prophet(PBUH) told him to spend it on his child(ren). The man then said he had another dinar, he was told to spend it on his wife. He then said he had another dinar and the Prophet(PBUH) admonished him to spend it on his servants. He then said he had a fifth dinar and he was then asked to spend it based on his personal discretion.

#The above narration illustrates the order of our charity. Also, even though the first three categories (the man, his children, his wife) are obligatory for him to spend on, he will be rewarded for them by Allah, provided it is for Allah's sake.

#On a lighter note, Doctur don give us Delil say no be must to declare our total income to our wives and to operate 'joint account' with Madams. smiley

#We must never neglect charity, it is part of our deen.

#We should not forget that one of the things that will still bring us reward after we're gone is Sodaqotul Jaariyah (charity that the benefits flow 'forever') done by us.

#However, the reward for the charity done in memory of a dead Muslim (by people on his behalf) will only be received ONCE and will not flow on and on.

#It is important that we be enlightened about the deen, even as career persons. This might come in handy at our place of work, in a situation where one does sermons to co-workers and surbodinates after Solah when they go for Solah breaks. The benefits people derive from it can serve as knowledge we disseminated that will bring rewards to us when we're dead.

#A wife or servant that gives out charity with her husband or master's wealth will be rewarded for it, likewise her husband/master. However, she should be certain the husband/master will approve of it and is capable of it.

#However, we are not obliged to do charity with food/material that is barely sufficient for us to survive.

#The charity done by a wife with her husband's wealth without his permission will receive half reward. However, the one she takes permission for (even though she knows he won't disprove of it) will be fully rewarded. Though, she doesn't have to spell out every little detail of such charity.

#It is not wrong for a wife to report a misunderstanding she has with her husband to someone he holds in high esteem, for the sake of resolving such misunderstanding.

#The wife of Ibn Mas'ud once had some quantity of gold to give out in charity and Ibn Mas'ud told her he and their child(ren) were most deserving of it, since they were in need of it too. His wife then went to ask the Prophet(PBUH) about this and he told her Ibn Mas'ud had said the truth (he was right).

#If a wife intends to give out Zakat, it is permissible for her to give it out to her husband and child(ren), if they are in need of it. This is because she is not mandated to cater for their material needs. So they are qualified beneficiaries of her Zakat or Sodaqoh.

#The one who gives one naira in charity might be more rewarded that someone who gives one hundred thousand naira in charity, if the one naira represents a greater percentage of his wealth than that of the other man.

***Q&A***

#A woman must always take permission from her husband to leave the home except if she needs to relieve herself and the facility is not available in her home and also in the case where the husband has given her an open(blanket) permission whenever she needs to visit certain places.

#As regards the fact that a righteous child that makes du'a for his dead parent(s) will have the reward given to them, the du'a or good deeds a righteous child does on behalf of evil parents will earn them no rewards; so also, the du'a and good deeds by a non-righteous child will fetch righteous parents no reward after their demise.

#If an individual starts a Masjid project (as Sodaqotul Jaariyah), but does not finish it before his death, and someone else completes it, the flowing reward for it will be due to both of them.

#If someone gives someone else money in charity and the recipient uses it for Sodaqotul Jaariyah, the reward for it will not be due to the one who gave him money.

#It is not permissible to 'help' our fellow Muslims in continuous assesment or exams on compassionate grounds (maybe he is ill).

#Whoever borrows money or something else with a sincere intention of repaying it when due, Allah will ease the repayment for him, while for someone who borrows without the intention of repaying it, Allah will make it difficult for him to repay and it will become a liability on him on the Day of Recompense.

Arrived late, but will try to join the pieces, In shaa Allah.

In the name of Allah, The Entirely Merciful, The Especially Merciful.

#No one has knowledge of the unknown. No doubts whatsoever about this for a true believer. Therefore, the believer should stop seeking protection other than from Allah.

#We should know that evil and evil people truly exist.

#Therefore we should be steadfast in our DhikruLLah (Remembrance of Allah) to bring Allah's protection on us. Only Allah's protection is the sure guaranty.

#We should be regularly uttering words of Remembrance of Allah like 'SubahanaLLah, WalhamduliLLah, WalailahaillaLLah, Allahu akbar' till it becomes an integral part of our everyday living.

#This Remembrance of Allah will put the believer who has ABSOLUTE faith in Allah alone under Allah's assured protection.

#However, it will not benefit someone that also engages in little and big acts of Shirk willingly. Allah detests Shirk in its entirety.

#Conclusively, only Allah can keep us safe from the known and unknown. No seer or soothsayer or spiritualist can guaranty us safety.

We ask Allah for His aid.

#Q & A#

#Islam frowns totally at raising the place of the Imam in the Masjid above the ground level. Even the permissibility of one palm length above ground level is simply the opinion of Imam Malik(RahimauLLah).

#It is totally wrong for someone to translate what the Imam is saying during Khutbah. That is, in some Masjids where the Imam is delivering the Khutbah in Arabic and another person is translating. The likely consequence of this is that the person translating might not have the reward of Solatul Jumu'ah.

#It is wrong to wipe the face with your palms after supplicating to Allah or making du'a, but it is very recommended that one stretches forth both palms seperate from each other in a raised position while making our Du'a.

The little I could save....

#We should be steadfast in remembrance of Allah through Dhikr, Tilawatul Qur'an (Reciting the Qur'an), e.t.c.

#As true believers, we must believe that it is Allah Who gives us life and Sustains us, and it is He Who causes our sould to exist no more. The death of someone, young or old should therefore never be attributed to the 'powers of some supernatural forces or persons'.

#Even for a man who beheads another fellow, the fellow's death should first be ascribed to Allah's Will and the murderer punished for killing the fellow.

NB: We should check our Hisnul Muslim (citadel of the believer) for the appropriate adhkar in various situations.

Most of what was discussed today is the various adhkar that should be said when leaving the home, when going to the Masjid, when entering the Masjid, when leaving the Masjid; explanations on them and other associated matters.

It was also mentioned how much steadfast the Prophet(PBUH) was in asking for Allah's forgiveness and seeking repentance too, 'AstaghfiruLLaha wa atubu ilayhi', even when addressing people in a gathering. We should take a cue from this too.

Re: Real-time Alqoh Updates by pmc01(m): 8:26pm On Dec 22, 2014
Today's Alqoh updates:

#It is compulsory on us to be earnest in breaking our fast as soon as the sun sets. This is the sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH)

#The Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said people will always be successful as long as they don't delay breaking their fast (when the sun sets).

#It is not permissible for us to break our fast if the sun sets earlier than the usual time (maybe due to changed weather conditions).

#If you break your fast when the sun has set and fly in an airplane shortly after, only to discover that the sun hasn't set when in air, your breaking of fast is valid and you do not need any remedy nor continue your fast.

#However, if you decided to break your fast after your flight has taken off, even though the sun had set before your take off and you then discover that the sun hasn't set when in air, you should not break your fast until the sun has set.

#In the same vein, it might happen that those at the top of a tall building might have not seen the sun set, while those at the ground floors might have seen the sun set. In this case, those at the ground floors should break their fast, while those at the top should wait till the sun sets before they break their fast.

#Even though the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned the competition amongst people to build tall buildings and skyscrapers is one of the signs that the world is coming to an end, it is not Haram (forbidden) in Islam to build tall buildings or skyscrapers.

#It is not reported anywhere that it was forbidden to build tall buildings or skyscrapers. We should not get confused.

#It was reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said it is IMPORTANT to take our sahur (the early morning meal that preceeds the fast), because there is barokah in it. This should however, not be interpreted to mean one's fast is not valid if one MISSES sahur.

#However, it is not good for one to make it a habit to deliberately miss Sahur.

#It is also reported that the Prophet (PBUH) loves those who are quick to break their fast and who are not too quick to take their Sahur. This illustrates that Allah does not intend to punish us with the command to observe sawm (fast).

#Those who make the Adhan are advised to endeavor to call the Adhan in earnest as soon as the sun sets, so that people who depend on the Adhan as a sign for them to break their fast can do it quick.

#We are advised to make the Adhan for Fajr prayer in earnest, especially when the last third of the night starts (around 3:30am in this period) so that people will be encouraged to observe Qiyam Layl (night prayers).

#Whoever will make the Adhan should be someone whose voice is clear and loud enough to go as far as possible. This is because the essence of the Adhan is to call people to prayer and not just to be merely pronounced.

#It is wrong for people to make more than two Adhan for fajr during the period of Ramadhan, with the intention to ensure people get up for Sahur. This is Bid'ah (innovation).

#It is also wrong for people to play audio tapes (even if they are Islamic lectures) or continue talking irrelevancies into the microphone, with the intention to wake people up for Sahur. Islam abhors that we disturb the peace of our neighbourhood.

#We should not encourage those people who usually go round people homes with drums and fanfare to wake people up for Sahur by coming out to dance to their songs or give them money. This is not part of Islam. However, this does not mean we should not wake our neighbours up for Sahur.

#It is not right for us to specifically fast on Fridays, Saturdays (and the scholars also added Sundays) if it is not in Ramadhan or compulsory fasts. In the same vein, it is also wrong to specifically fast on days when non-Muslims are doing their festivals.

#It is also wrong to specifically save your stock or goods so that they will be available for sale on the days non-Muslims hold their festivals (

Arrived late for today's Alqoh. Decided to take a walk with the 'boiz'. Our trekking no meet schedule *smiles*:

#It is not encouraged to fast beyond the normal time for breaking (sunset).

#It is however in the sunnah that whoever will be fasting beyond the time for iftar (break of fast) should continue with the fast till time for sahur.

#The one who is fasting and doesn't do away with lying and other such vices is toying with the acceptance of his fast by Allah.

#Even when we are not fasting, we should do away with these vices.

#Lying denigrates you, while honesty elevates you. Desist from lying.

#There are three forms of lying that are permitted, but shouldn't be tagges 'iro sunnah', i.e., 'sunnatic lie'.
These forms are:
#deceiving the enemy during a war, in order to win the war, i.e., war strategy.
#deceiving two warring factions, so that the quarrel between them can be settled. For example, individually lying to both parties that the other has asked you to come and beg him to end their quarrel.
#the third is 'lying' (being diplomatic with) to your wife in some permissible instances, such as when she is nagging unnecessarily, in order to make peace in the home. But the wife is not allowed to lie to her husband. ~why these sisters dey hala na~
*smiles*

#We should be wary of teaching our kids to lie. For instance, asking them to lie on your behalf that you are absent when a certain visitor comes calling (prevalent in our society).

#Even though we have the capacity to teach our kids good morals, the environment around can influence them negatively. The Muslims are therefore encouraged to strive and create their own unique communities, where they will totally dominate or make up the majority of the population of such environments.

#We are also encouraged to do away with insulting and fighting people when fasting and even when we are not. We should learn to be patient and perseverant, except in situations where it will be better for us to react with force.

#It is wrong to say praise is the 'food' acceptable to Allah (ope lounje re). We should be careful in copying non-Muslims in these kind of careless speeches made with the intention to 'praise God'.

In the name of Allah, The Entirely Merciful, The Especially Merciful.

#The Prophet (PBUH) was fond of eating in company and from the same plate with others, irrespective of their social status.

#To make a habit of eating and drinking in the company of fellow Muslims will promote peace and harmony within the Ummah.

#We should make it a habit to eat or drink from the same spot our spouses have taken from, as this will foster the love between us. This is in the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH).

#We should not let superstition discourage us from practising these acts of Sunnah, as nothing will happen to us except by the Will of Allah.

#Generally, we should beware of superstitions, especially ones prevalent in our society, that often tend towards shirk. Examples like "A pregnant woman should not meet an albino", "to hit one's leg on an obstacle on the way out is a sign of badluck", e.t.c.

#Still on superstitions: Contrary to the beliefs of the Arabs before the coming of the Prophet (PBUH), the Prophet (PBUH) warned that the perching of a Owl on one's roof doesn't signify badluck or death will come to that person as a result and also that the Month of Safar does not bring badluck with it. On the other hand, he (PBUH) warned that we should stay away from people with leprosy just as we run away from a lion.
However, this does not give us the license to make jest of them, we should rather make the recommended adhkar when we see people with disability. *a short story was narrated to point out this moral*

#The Prophet (PBUH) discouraged us from eating or drinking with our left hand. It was reported that he (PBUH) once admonished a man not to eat with his left hand and he responded saying it was not convenient for him and the Prophet (PBUH) told him Allah will never make it convenient for him. It was also reported that the Prophet (PBUH) said it is the Shaytan (devil) that eats/drinks with his left hand.
All these points to how evil this act is. We should totally desist from this.

AlhamduliLLah.

Updates:

#In the Hadith, some people came to question Aisha(RA) on if a man can have any contact (like kissing) with his wife while fasting, and she responded that the Prophet (PBUH) used to kiss them lightly even while he was fasting.

#However deep kissing will lead to termination of the fast, because of the exchange of saliva resulting thus.

#One of the lessons to learn is that the wives of Prophet (PBUH) were not only playing the roles of wives but as students learning tremendously from the Prophet (PBUH).

#This should serve as a lessons with wives of today, who neglect the acquisition of knowledge on the premise that their husbands are scholars of the deen. Wives should equip themselves, to be able to teach other women about the deen.

#If one mistakenly releases sperm as a consequence of light intimacy with his/her spouse, then that day's fast is terminated and they will both be required to repay that particular fast.

#However, if they have sex, then they will have to do kafarah (paying the penalty fo deliberately breaking their fast). But if the wife was reluctant to have sexual relations with the husband, but he 'forces' her into it, then only him would pay the penalty.
Re: Real-time Alqoh Updates by pmc01(m): 8:27pm On Jan 05, 2015
#It is reported that the Prophet (PBUH) used to do blood cupping even when in Ihram and while fasting. However, making incisions (fetish).

#However, it was also reported that the Prophet implied that blood cupping will terminate one's fast.

#However, Islamic jurisprudence dictates that a command that comes later on a certain issue will overrule the previous one.

#Therefore, the ruling that one can cup blood while fasting is overrules the ruling that blood cupping terminates one's fasting.

#However, those who engage in blood cupping should take great care in sterilizing the equipments and avoid causing harm to one another.

AlhamduliLLah.

In the name of Allah, The Entirely Merciful, The Especially Merciful

#Islam teaches us the ethics of greetings thus- the person on a mount should greet the person walking. The group of few should greet the group of many. The one walking should greet the one sitting. The young should greet the one older than him/her.
Consequently, those greeted must respond to the teslim said to them.

#Islam discourages us from sitting by a pathway, i.e., where people pass through. It is a sign of joblessness.

#However, Islam does not discourage us from initiating the teslim, even if we are classed under the recipient.

#The Prophet (PBUH) used to be cheerful and greet people, even those he was older than. Islam values respecting those older than us, regardless of how little the age difference between them is.

#The moral here is that Islam wants to discourage arrogance among Muslims.

#If it happens though that the one walking is younger than the one on the mount, precedence of the rule guiding this category of people will apply. That means the adult on a mount should initiate the teslim to the younger one walking. However, if they are both on a mount, then the younger one should initiate the teslim. This follows for the other two categories mentioned earlier.

#A certain Doctur (didn't grasp the name) wrote two volumes of books on the 'manners of teslim', and even this couldn't cover everything on greeting.

#It is narrated that the one most deserving of goodwill from Allah is the one who is fond of initiating the greeting first.

#It is also narrated that we should say teslim to those (Muslims) we know and those we are not even familiar with.

#It is also in the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) to say teslim to the gathering of people when we arrive in their midst and when leaving their midst.

#It is reported in Abu Dawud that when we meet our fellow Muslim and say teslim to them and we then meet them again shortly after a slight seperation from them, we should re-initiate the teslim to them again. This will defeat the whisperings of Shaytan in each of their minds.

#It was reported that the Sahaba (Companions of the Prophet, PBUH) didn't hesitate in implementing these manners of greetings as taught to them by the Prophet, PBUH. We should take a cue from this and be utmost in implementing the lessons we learn about our deen (the ones that are authentic, of course).
Re: Real-time Alqoh Updates by pmc01(m): 8:18pm On Jan 15, 2015
#The Prophet, PBUH taught us to first observe the tahiyatul Masjid (two rakahs that follows our entry into the Masjid- Mosque) before we sit or do any other thing in the Masjid. After this Solah, we can then proceed to say teslim to those we meet in the Masjid.

#The implication of this is that we should observe these two rakahs first before saying teslim to people inside the Masjid. The rights of Allah (the two rakahs) should come before the rights of people on us (the teslim).

#The evidence of that is in the narration about the man that came into the Masjid and who observed the two rakahs before saying the teslim the Prophet, PBUH. Who then asked him to go and repeat the Solah. This occured three times before he confessed to the Prophet, PBUH that he didn't know how to perform the Solah better than he had done and he was then taught how to observe the Solah properly.

#We should also learn from this that we should not be ashamed to admit our ignorance of any aspect of the deen, in the hope of learning. Our acquisition of western knowledge should not be a stumbling block to equipping ourselves with comprehensive knowledge of the deen.

#We should not forget the adhkar before entering the Masjid. Please, refer to your hisnul muslim (citadel of the believer).

#It is also in the Sunnah of the Prophet, PBUH that he used to make the teslim quietly whenever he was re-entering his house at night, after our Solatul Isha, such that the one sleeping will not be disturbed, but will be audible to the one awake. We should therefore learn not to disturb our family with unnecessary noise, just because we are the 'head of the home'. We should learn to be tender, where necessary.
Re: Real-time Alqoh Updates by pmc01(m): 8:54pm On Jan 15, 2015
#It is reported that one must say the teslim before asking a question. One should not entertain a discussion or a question, before the teslim has been said.

#If the Imam mistakenly rises up for the fifth rakah, instead of just four, it is not right for those following to rise up for the fifth rakah with him, when they are sure the four rakahs are already complete.
Also, if two or more people following say SubhanaLLah to call his attention, he should terminate that extra rakah, except he is definitely sure that he is going for the first rakah (this is an aside).

#The Prophet, PBUH knocks on the door with the tips of his fingers, rather than banging on the door. When it is asked who is at the door, he will respond by mentioning his full name, Muhammad bin AbdLLah, the messenger of Allah. He will then wait till he is asked to enter.

Q & A:
#Islam permits people to learn about comparative lectures, provided it is not Muslims we focus our dissemination of such information, but to non-Muslims . The aim should be to invite people to Islam.
We should be careful of reading bible verses to Muslims, so as to avoid Shaytan using this to inspire doubts about the deen in their minds.

#It is not disallowed to 'shape' our hair like the barbers do after the normal hair cut.

#When the Imam's ablution has becomes invalid and he should only bring someone close to replace him. And that's why it is recommended that knowledgeable people should be the one's diirectly behind the Imam.

#Our beards (the one we should not shave) encompasses the hair from the jaw to the intersection of our main hair with the one close to our ear, and to the intersection between the neck and head and the one to the point below the lower lip.

#We must not present alcohol, on request, to the parents of our would be bride, our boss (for those to be granted 'freedom' after learning a skill) and all such people, just because we are seeking their 'blessings'.

#It was reported that a man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said As salamu 'alaykum to him and the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned he had ten rewards for that. Another came and said As salamu 'alaykum warahmotuLLah. The Prophet (PBUH) said he had twenty rewards. Another man came and said As salamu 'alaykum warahmotuLLah wabarokatu and the Prophet (PBUH) said he had thirty rewards.
This goes to tell us that the limit for the teslim was As salamu 'alaykum warahmtouLLahi wabarokatu.

#The narrations that said the Prophet (PBUH) said Wa 'alaykumus salam warahmotuLLahi wabarokatu wamaghfirotuh waridwanuLLah has no authentic evidence in the Sunnah. We should desist from that.

#It was also reported that It is alowed for us to say As salamu 'alaykum warahmotuLLah wabarokatu to either side and say As salamu 'alaykum warahmotuLLah to the other side when closing our Solah/Solat.
But it is disallowed for us to say As salamu 'alaykum warahmotuLLah wabarokatu to both sides.
We should also note that this should only be once in a while and not regularly. We should also watch our intentions for doing this.

#It should be noted that the Prophet (PBUH) used to repeat what he was saying three times when addressing a more than one person to ensure that everyone in such congregation fully grasps his message.
This also applies to when saying teslim to a congregation and when attempting to enter someone's house, to ensure he has been heard.
This does not mean we should repeat our teslim until the third time everytime we meet someone.

#It is wrong for us to respond to the teslim when on Solah and when passing out urine and faeces. It is not even right for us to be talking when passing out impurity.

#It is also reported that the Prophet (PBUH) used to respond to the teslim with something equal to what has been uttered or something better.

#It is also reported that the Prophet (PBUH) used to ensure that his response to the teslim from someone was clearly heard by that person.

#He also forbade us from responding to teslim with sign languages or body gestures, except if one were on Solah.
This means it is allowed for someone to respond to teslim with head or hand gesture while on Solah, and this will suffice as a response.
However, we should avoid unnecessary gestures on Solah.

#The Prophet (PBUH) discouraged us from greeting people with 'Alaykas salam, because this is the manner of teslim of the dead.
