I see it as just another option they've made available to their employees. Those who wish to take it will, and those who do not will not be affected by it in the least. We can't all have the same perspective as to what constitutes an ideal life.

I sure as hell can't see how this is an an insult to 'womanhood/motherhood' @ OP.

LOL. Why are so many men on here catching hypertension over an issue that doesn't concern them. It is some of these same men that like to make fun of women in their 30s and call them "expired goods" or make comments like "go and find a husband, your clock is ticking" now there is technology to freeze women's eggs and other fertility treatments so that women can have children later in life and we are still complaining. na wa

Google and facebook are not forcing anyone to freeze their eggs. They simply cover the cost as part of their medical insurance plan for the women who CHOOSE to do so. fertility treatments are expensive so it is nice to have an employer that covers the cost.
as the technology advances further, hopefully the cost will be driven down..

I really hope you asked me this question because you truly want to know the answer, and not in sly sarcasm. grin

Dude,
-2 + 7 = 5

-2 is negative, and counting upwards from -2 to +7 gives 9 digits (-1,0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7).

The position of 5 on that number line is lesser than 7, and the answer 5 itself is also lesser than 9 if you are to add 7 to 2.

The point is that at the end of any calculation involving positive and negative in whatever order they're placed, the answer will still be a reduction from the highest digit on the LHS of the equation and not an addition...

Do you get it?

That's traditional mathematics.
Don't try to explain how (-) + (+) ALWAYS gives negative.
Instead, say (-) * (+) is ALWAYS negative.

I certainly would especially if offered to me for free. It's a form of insurance. Most women plan to give birth in their prime years but sometimes life happens. we may not find the right partner on time or we may not be financially ready. In fact, some women may already have a child but when they turn 35+ they want another child but can't. In that case, they can use the frozen eggs to conceive another child.
there are many possibilities.

Really?

This procedure – vitrification - is currently around a min of £5’000 per cycle, but will probably come down with technological efficiencies and more widespread commercialisation.

Even if it is “free” to end-users, there is a cost that has to be bourn somewhere. How will companies feel if they have to provide this kind of healthcare for women? How will it affect companies that simply can’t afford to provide it or remain competitive if they don’t?

What if it’s state funded, how will that impact healthcare provision? Presumably after unfreezing/defrosting, IVF will still be required to bring about conception?

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/oct/23/nhs-fertility-treatment-ivf-cuts-nice-ccgs
http://www.theguardian.com/money/2014/may/10/ivf-nhs-fertility-postcode-lottery-cut-costs

Do you know the failure rate of this procedure is close to 80% for women age 30? And close to 90% for women age 40? Do you have an idea of the number of “live births” we’ve actually had worldwide by this technique? .Did you know that some of the chemicals used are harmful to embryos of which the egg will eventually form a part?

I’ll spare you the horrors of the actual procedure to “harvest” viable eggs, or the unknowns/concerns about the actual health of babies born this way. Anyone interested may care too look into this further.

My point of writing – as ever – is to draw attention to the fact that families (men, women & children), and society as a whole flourish best when we consider and act on biological and social imperatives that ensure there’s a balance between considering them individually and as a whole.

I love my women and I am truly astonished that some actually believe that;

- “Careers” can be as or more important than marriage & children (if marriage & children are indeed a desire), and the natural fertility window should be ignored or manipulated in order to ”have it all”
- That termination of pregnancies for any reason and at any time – when one abortion increases the risk of serious pathology by as much as 50% - is good – both morally and for their health.
- That dosing on chemicals/hormones and wreaking havoc on natural fertility cycles to avoid “unwanted pregnancies” is good for you and an absolute necessity.

More astonished, as all these are sold to you under the guise “reproductive health”, “choice” and “empowerment”, when apart from wreaking havoc on your bodies and often peddling false hope, one of the things it does is allows men to enjoy their lusts without consequence – I’d call that abuse & exploitation.

And most astonished because I doubt that very few men would put themselves through any of that if the positions were reversed – and especially not for women – I certainly wouldn’t.

Wow!!! I cannot help but laugh at how dumb you actually are. Ediots, they talk shyt yet fail to actually do extensive research. Ediot, read a scientific journal not a website made by dumb people like you who also fail to read. Eidetic memory has been proven, photographic memory has not. Eidetic memory occurs in children, rarely in adults and fades within a few minutes. Photographic memory is still yet to be proven. Eidetic memory has no correlation with a person's intelligence. An Eidetic memory cannot retain a body of text from months ago so that statement about remembering stuff on here as an eidetic memory is a big fat fail. Read a book.

list of people with eidetic memory

John von Neumann, was able to memorize a column of the phone book at a single glance.[10] Herman Goldstine wrote about him: "One of his remarkable abilities was his power of absolute recall. As far as I could tell, von Neumann was able on once reading a book or article to quote it back verbatim; moreover, he could do it years later without hesitation."

meanwhile, according to a village goat known as kandiikane, eidetic memory cannot go beyond or retain a body of text from few months ago. cheesy grin

Is there such a thing as a photographic memory? And if so, can it be learned?
March 12, 2007
Alan Searleman, a professor of psychology at St. Lawrence University and co-author of the college textbook Memory from a Broader Perspective, explains.
In the scientific literature, the term eidetic imagery comes closest to what is popularly called photographic memory. The most common way to identify eidetikers (as people with eidetic imagery are often called) is by the Picture Elicitation Method. In it, an unfamiliar picture is placed on an easel and a person carefully scans the entire scene. After 30 seconds have elapsed, the picture is removed from view, and the person is asked to continue to look at the easel and to report anything that they can observe. People possessing eidetic imagery will confidently claim to still "see" the picture. In addition, they can scan it and examine different parts of it just as if the picture were still physically present. Consequently, one of the hallmarks of eidetic imagery is that eidetikers use the present tense when answering questions about the missing picture, and they can report in extraordinary detail what it contained.
Eidetic images differ from other forms of visual imagery in several important ways. First, an eidetic image is not simply a long afterimage, since afterimages move around when you move your eyes and are usually a different color than the original image. (For example, a flash camera can produce afterimages: the flash is bright white, but the afterimage is a black dot, and the dot moves around every time you move your eyes.) In contrast, a true eidetic image doesn¿t move as you move your eyes, and it is in the same color as the original picture. Second, a common visual image that we can all create from memory (such as an image of a bedroom) does not have the characteristics of most eidetic images, which almost always fade away involuntarily and part by part. Also, it is not possible to control which parts of an eidetic image fade and which remain visible. Unlike common visual images created from memory, most eidetic images last between about half a minute to several minutes only, and it is possible to voluntarily destroy an eidetic image forever by the simple act of blinking intentionally. Furthermore, once gone from view, rarely can an eidetic image ever be retrieved.
most research has shown that virtually no adults seem to possess the ability to form eidetic images.
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-there-such-a-thing-as/

According to theories, a person with a photographic memory is capable of remembering scenes and events as detailed, precise images. Numerous scientific studies have suggested that the photographic memory is probably purely legendary, as no demonstrations of a truly photographic memory have ever been documented. Some people, however, have what is known as an eidetic memory, a related but somewhat different concept. The terms “eidetic” and “photographic” are sometimes confused, especially in the popular media, and some people may refer to a photographic memory when they really mean an eidetic memory.

Proponents of the belief that a photographic memory really does exist say that some people are capable of storing information in the form of detailed images which can be recalled at will. A person with such a memory, for example, would be able to describe a painting in detail after seeing it once, or be able to recite passages from a book he or she had only seen in passing. People are in fact capable of such feats, but this appears to be the result of rigorous mental training, rather than an actual photographic memory.
[In an eidetic memory, people store visual information with a high level of precision, and this allows them to repeat information in exhaustive detail, but usually only shortly after being exposed to it. Eidetic memory appears to be most common in children, typically fading with age, and some researchers have suggested that this may be because children are more likely to store information in a purely visual way, rather than trying to verbally describe the things they see/quote]

[quoteIn the case of individuals who have an eidetic memory, they appear to store information in fundamentally different ways which facilitate a very high level of recall. This type of memory is not quite the same thing as the famed “photographic memory” which pops up periodically in the popular media, not least because photographic memories are often attributed to adults, and children are actually more likely to have an eidetic memory.
http://m.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-photographic-memory.htm

The popular term photographic memory refers to the ability to capture and store an exact replicate of an image (like a photograph) in one’s brain and perfectly recall the image at a later time point. This differs slightly from eidetic memory. People with eidetic memory are able to reproduce a previously viewed image in their mind, maintaining general physical qualities such as spatial organization, color, and texture. As described by Searleman (2007), a true eidetic image does not move when one moves their eyes. Thus, an eidetic image is not simply an afterimage, which usually moves and is often different in color from the original image. Eidetic images usually fade away involuntarily after a few minutes, and the image is lost upon blinking. Once an eidetic image has faded away, it can rarely – arguably never – be retrieved.
