Mich ran ahead of Maureen. She blocked her part. The nighty was in there and she didn't want Maureen seeing it.

'They were arguing when Leila came. She said someone is waiting for them downstairs.

Maureen went out to see her handsome Jordan. Mich quickly retrieved the clothe and hid it. Making a mental note to tell Joel to discard it. She heard footstep and Maureen burst in, hugging her.

'Come and see what Jordan bought for you'

She led her downstairs.

She went out and saw a red Ferrari car waiting outside. It was so beautiful she knew it cost a lot of money.

'Thank you Jordan, but I can't take it'
'Why?' Both Jordan and Maureen chorused.

'I am now Joel's responsibility and we agreed we need not anyone's help'

Mich smiled, 'I love him Jordan, that's all that matters. Don't forget to send my love to Eugene, Shan, Tara and dad', she said and walked back to the house.
Throughout that day,Maureen had refused to have a word with her. She was disappointed that Mich didn't take it. When Joel came back, she ran outside and jump on him.
'What is it? Are you okay?'
'I am fine Joel. Please what did the doctor said?'
'What doctor?'
'The one you went to ask about our sexual life'
He looked at her. She was staring at hi so hard. What should he say?
'Daddy, welcome'
'Thanks sweetheart. Can you go to your room and watch cartoon. I need to talk to your mummy'

Joel dragged Mich upstairs. As soon as he made sure their door was locked he began unbuttoning her shirt.

They went downstairs, Maureen on sighting Mich knew what had just transpired between the couple but other things occupied her mind. She told Joel about Jordan's visit. Joel pulled Mich to him and placed a kiss on her nose,' you did well my sweet. I am proud of you. We are not beggars, are we?'
'No we are not'
Maureen stared.
'I have an announcement to make'
'What is it?'
'Mich and I will be going to for a week vacation in Lagos. You Maureen are in charge. By the time we return, we will begin our wedding planning'
Mich was dumbfounded. She just looked and dreamed. A complete week alone with Joel.
'What about your work?'
'The hospital authority added another week for me. This is my birthday gift to you'
She flung herself on him and began laughing. Who said she married the wrong man?

The two love birds returned exactly four days later with Mich sad and getting fatter. She had enjoyed her three days vacation with her husband. Joel and Mich had stayed in his friend's house at Victoria island. Bradford and his wife had travelled out and he had begged the Jason to stay at their house instead of paying for a hotel. Joel had refused, but Mich insisted and it turned out to be the best one week of her life.
Three days into their honey week, Mich received a call from her brother.
'How is my only sister this morning?'
'I am fine Justin, how is sarah?'
'She is doing great. Joel?'
'Fine'
'I can't believe you are in town and didn't bother calling or visiting me'
'I am so sorry dear, Joel and I will pay you a visit before we go'
'Please don't tell me you two are staying at a hotel when you know you are always welcome to my house'
'Justine, Joel and I came down here because we want to be alone but to answer your question, no we are not at a hotel. We are at Joel's friend, he travelled out'

How dare Justin say that about Joel? She was lying in bed while Joel had gone out to get them some groceries. After about five minutes, she dialled her father's number.

'Finally, my daughter remembers me'
'Father I am sorry. Other things occupied my mind'
'Michelle Nicholas, how could you be in Lagos and stay at a stranger's when we have houses here'
'Father, I am sorry but it doesn't matter where I stay, does it?'
'It does Mich. It really does?'
'But Joel and I are happy'
'Happy you say? Keep fornicating with him. Has he brought your bride price?'
'We are in love father. Please be happy for me'
'I want Joel to prove he loves you by bringing you back home, coming for an introduction, then asking for your hands in marriage. I want him to pay your bride price and marry you in church. That is the only way I can forgive him'
Mich began crying. Her family are bend on destroying her new found happiness.
'Father, Joel will come for my hands in marriage'
'Keep crying Mich, I want you to leave that house back to the family house. Isn't it absurd that you are perching on a stranger like a beggar? My own daughter'

'Sure you are not. Jordan told me about the car. Michelle, I can't afford for my daughter running around town in a cab. You are a Nicholas'

By the time her father ended the call, Mich was sobbing her heart out. She didn't know how to tell Joel to come stay in her father's house. He won't, he was too proud for that and her family are now waging war against him. For the first time, she wished he had taken that job in Rivers state. At least, she would be far from them. She draw her legs to her chin like a little girl and sobbed
'My love, what is it?', joel said on entering the room.
'Nothing'
'You are crying'
'I am fine'
'No you are not. Did I do something?'
'No'
'Please tell me what's making you to cry'
'Joel, can we go and stay at my father's house for our remaining stay in this town?'
'Why do you suddenly want that?'
'Nothing'
'I will love to my love, but that will mean I can't afford taking care of you'
'You are taking care of me my Love'
'People think I can't afford it Mich, that's why I want to prove them wrong. I want your parents to know I need no help from them'
Mich said nothing more. She was quiet throughout the day. That evening, they made love and Joel could feel it that her mind wasn't there. She faked the smiles and laughs. The love making was the worst they ever had. Yet he told her nothing. By morning, she woke up and smiled at him.
'What's that smiles for?'
'I need to ask you a favour'
'Anything for you my love'
'Let's go home to Leila and Maureen. I am missing them'
'This is our fourth day'
'I know. But I want to go home'
'What is bothering you?'
'Nothing'
'You really want to go back to Abuja?'
'Yes'
'Okay, start packing your things, I will book a plane for us'
'Thank you Joel'
'Just talk to me whenever something is bothering you or when I do something wrong'
They were on their way to Abuja, by afternoon, joel wanted to make her happy, he booked their names under first class passengers.
