One detail strangely left out of Google's presentation of the Nexus 6 is one of the most exciting (and one of the few things we didn't already know): the Nexus 6 is water-resistant. It's not a waterproof Nexus 6, but it's not a bad bonus to discover. Motorola's US site shows the specs for the Nexus 6 with a big ol' section called ''Water-resistant'' and a smaller but much, much more important ''yes'' right beneath it.

A water-resistant Nexus...whoever would have thought it? In recent years, the Nexus line has stood for premium specs in a low-cost phone. The 649 USD price tag of the Nexus 6 has blown that tradition out of the water, though, so adding water-resistance gets us straight back in the water again. There's no details on the IP rating of the Nexus 6 yet, and the Nexus 6 is not the device which appears underwater in one of Google's promo videos as some suspected, but the story is definitely true.

Google has clearly decided to take a different angle with the new Nexuses. Both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are priced higher than many would have expected. But with a larger and better screen, improved camera, water-resistance and increased storage capacity, I guess we had to realize the low-cost Nexus dream couldn't last forever.
