The only similarities with the two situations are the Malians, Burkinabes and Guineans came to Cote'd Ivoire to work because of the booming economy at that time, much the same as most African migrants down south. The so called southern "true" Ivorians instituted the "ivorite" and feared their control would diminish because of the mostly Muslim northerners that came in from other areas even though these groups traditionally had ties to the region that would become Ivory coast

South Africans are a different breed. Their xenophobia is born out of the inability to compete (hence the laziness accusation) and a sense that they are superior to other Africans.

I thought the richest country in Africa was Nigeria. Why dont they go to Nigeria because of its booming Economy. I mean, from what we hear, Most economic migrants should be heading to Nigeria not SA.

Or is it because Nigeria economy is a paper economy?

So tell us about "The Ghana must Go" slogan, what happened there. You seem to know a lot about immigrant issues. Didn't Nigerians feel threatened by Ghanaians in their own country, then you sent them parking. The different with SA, we are not dealing with Nigerians alone flocking to SA, but the rest of African. You must go to home affairs offices and see how many people are looking for SA VISA.

The richest country in Africa in terms of natural resources is probably the Congo and not Nigeria.

Sickness! Does the constitution of Burkina faso say that to become president, the candidate should be Burkinabe by birth from parents Mother and father themselves Burkinabe? The answer is Yes.

Note also this: Your criminal Ouattara is president today in Cote d'ivoire thanks to the same Konan Bedie' who he accused of having written about IVOIRITE'. What is he Ouattara doing with Bedie then?

The bottom line is We've go a bunch of criminals who put Ouattara in power on purpose to steal all Ivorinan wealth.
You have massacred thousands of Guere people in western Cote d'Ivoire calling them lazy people although they welcomed you over the past 50 or 60 years.

As we speak now the criminal self styled peacemaker Compaore' of Burkina Faso is in hot waters.
By militarily supporting the criminal gangs who brought Ouattara to power he thought he would in return secure the support of his people and western power such as the United states , France and the whole European Union. But the US government said on the 28th of october 2014 the United States opposes the revision of the constitution meant to allow Compaore' to run for a 3rd term after 27 years in power.

I think South Africa is in danger of being the victim of what Cote d'Ivoire went through with these evil immigrants who tend to despise those who open the doors to them.
Get out of South Africa and stay in your dropping countries. South Africa does not need you guys, so if you went there to make money , shut the F*K up.

Let me guess, if we continue along this line of argument the words............. IMF...... World Bank.....illuminati......Africom......Ghadaffi....Neo colonialist capitalist imperialist is bound to come up soon enough

The South Africans should hurry up and chase all the Africans out of their country. Nothing will change, they will just look for some other reason to blame for their laziness.

The poorest country in the world in terms of natural resources is probably Japan. That island doesn't have much besides mountains but the people who live on this unstable island that shakes occasionally manage to thrive such that they maintain an economy rated third largest in the world.

You are trying to twist the story, we are talking about now, did you just rebase and named yourself the number 1 economy in Africa. Why all of a sudden you are running away from that tag. Shouldn't all economic migrant be running to nigeria, but for some reasons, nigerians themselves are running away from wealth and heading down south, why?

Aren't they running away from poverty? The so called biggest economy in Africa cant provide for its citizens.

I have never seen South Africans running to Botswana for better life.

South Africa has a smaller economy, so they say. But still people still risking their lives crossing borders eligally for better life in a poor country.

Correction 1: Nyaope is a South African cocktail of existing drugs. Better to say "it gets packaged in SA usually by the end user". That's how crack came about.

Correction 2: Nigerians don't produce any of the drugs they sell hence my comment was about supply chain. Nigerians don't produce anything actually but they are "industrious" in that they buy low sell high.

You know I respect Nigerians for their fierce entrepreneurial spirit and their hustle savvy but all that is marred by your monumental penchant for broad ignorant statements and its time someone told you idiots the real deal.

As you know Africa is the backbone of the world's industrial economy. Our resources are being extracted at prices that are relatively next to nothing to keep the rest of the world running. Now if I were Europe, whose economy is almost entirely dependent on Africa's rescources, I would take great steps to ensure that I can continue to extract these minerals at next to nothing because if I don't...I'm screwed. So I can rely on two things A. Corrupt African leadership (Which Nigeria is very well acquainted with. I mean corruption is the zeitgeist in Nigeria. My friends and I often joke that you spell Nigeria with a C...) B. Endless wars, famine and desease perpetuated by democracy because if a African leaders only has four years to make a difference, why would he, what difference can he make in four years right? This is why your Delta region is the sh_t hole that it is and the environmental disaster that it is. Because if Nigerians had to educate their privileged and that trickled down to their poor and they took control of their economy, Royal Dutch Shell wouldn't own Nigeria and oil prices would shoot up for them should you continue to make deals with them or BP. That's why its taken you guys 60 years to get your heads out of your asses. (Well we have China to thank for that, in some ways South Africa too because they showed the world that Africa is capable of developing and sustaining stable economies. And since Nigeria is entirely dependent on foreign aid to boost their infrastructure, you're welcome.) Now if Nigeria is the sh_t hole it is because of external forces trying to keep extracting oil cheap. What makes you think that it would be different in Africa's richest country?

South Africa has just come out of one of the most oppressive regimes in the history of man kind. One that was designed to systematically paralyses our minds and potential for development and make us slaves. Blacks were not allowed to pursue jobs of skilled labor and Bantu education was designed to make us blue collar workers. But because of our ingenuity and intellectual savvy, we were able to overcome that government and build. In 20 years we've achieved more than what Nigeria is only beginning to realize. When you hear of South Africans flourishing over seas, they blaze trails. We have a 21 year old rewriting the energy studies curriculum at Harvard University because of a fuel he developed and since there is no course that teaches the kind of energy study he's doing. He's creating a whole faculty in that department. Our artists continue to win Grammy awards & are exported to help produce American artists records. We don't pay them to work with us. They call us. Our art works are hanging on the walls of Paris & New York. We headline at the New York fashion shows without ever having moved or lived there. Unlike Nigerians who only flourish at that level when they're born overseas themselves. I am here in Lagos to show you guys how to do your jobs properly.I'm in finance. My wife, is working for one of your wealthiest businessmen to straighten out his books (Now till April)because he doesn't trust his countrymen to do so. She comes from a rural upbringing in Natal, got a scholarship to a prestigious university (worked as a waiter through out) and is now a high flying chartered accountant. Built herself a house and her mom a home, just bought me my dream car ('67 Shelby mustang)and she's only 28. I come from a relatively poor upbringing in Sebokeng. To pay for my schooling I worked as cleaner for the school I was studying in and a petrol attendant on weekends. I got a bursary to finish my MBA in finance after 3 years. Now I am currently building a home in Victoria Island and own 2 in South Africa. Stories like mine are typical in south Africa and our middle class are doing amazing things right now. A 26 year old boy is a millionaire selling T shirts, another is 29 years old and is sitting on the board of 4 prestigious firms in South Africa. Unlike Nigerians who are always looking for a way to make a quick buck with the least amount of work by trying to scam every body they meet. We believe in the slow grind of hard work.

Its true, for the most part South Africans are lazy, but not in the way you idiots propagate. We're lazy in that we could be titans of indistry but we allow excuses to happen far too easily because A. our population isn't as competitive as yours. We don't have to be, our population doesn't need us to be. B. Our media pumps this idea that government must do everything for its people, which in turn has people flocking to parliament with their hands out. Our poor unfortunately were raised to be workers and employees, not because they are feeble minded but because that is the only way they can acquire capital or a means to an end. Through employment. Where your population long realized that their government does absolutely nothing for their development & so you must be self sufficient, our poor are slowly realizing that fact. Your country realized this years ago, which is why corruption is a common trait amongst your people, including your priests. In 20 years all this talk will be quelled because South Africans are coming up. Look at how far we've gone so far. Unfortunately the media propagates this idea that we are lazy because the media is owned by whites, who have no interest in seeing blacks develop. And other Nigerians who'd rather do business with whites and get ripped off, than with black South Africans who have a genuine interest in seeing your country develop, because they've been brainwashed and don't even trust their own. I have even tried to do business with other Nigerians only to run into big talkers who make me do all the work and hope to profit off just being a proxy. But you idiots continue with crap like this instead of asking yourselves real questions like where are all our inventors and engineers and scientist. Why are they all going overseas and making Europe and America and Dubai rich instead of their own countries. That's what we talk about in South Africa. Things that matter. And I never get how you guys can be so high and mighty living in a shit hole like you do? Why did it take China coming in to Nigeria and South Africa coming in to Nigeria for you morons to get it together? The poor aren't lazy they are disadvantaged. Things we take for granted they value. Access to water and electricity being one.

Get a f--cking clue. And stop propagating this kind of rubbish. Africa is already divided as is, with you f--k heads spreading nonsense like this. You need to ask yourselves why Most Nigerians in South Africa are involved in every corrupt money making scheme and selling drugs while South Africans go over seas to learn and educate themselves to be of excellence and high stature. We are supposed to be building and growing each other by observing our strengths and learning them. But you morons play into how whites continue to control our economies by pointing fingers at everyone and highlighting their weaknesses or your perceived ideas of them and its sad. But South Africans are progressing and all this crap will stop when you see the results. Its good that you point things like this. It makes us look at our selves and improve. South Africans & Zimbabweans are gonna show Africans what intellectual black people can do when they apply themselves.

We have a 21 year old rewriting the energy studies curriculum at Harvard University because of a fuel he developed and since there is no course that teaches the kind of energy study he's doing.

Great valid post.

Who is the 21 year old more information about his studies will be appreciated.

You know I respect Nigerians for their fierce entrepreneurial spirit and their hustle savvy but all that is marred by your monumental penchant for broad ignorant statements and its time someone told you idiots the real deal.

Grammar. You can keep your respect. We don't want it.

Thank you professor for pretty much rehashing want is discussed plentifully on nairaland.

****YAWN**** We match and I dear say exceed the above when given enabling environments. Locally or overseas born. That is an undisputable fact.

First you say they are lazy but not in the way we think, then you claim they are disadvantaged. Which is it make up your mind?

PS lots of Nigerians are disadvantaged as well and see that their government cannot service them because of rampant mismanagement and corruption hence the drive for self sustainance, meanwhile the only reason your so called Poor in South Africa are able to keep running to govt is because YOU INHERITED INSTITUTIONS FROM THE APATHEID ERA THAT WERE FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND HAD BEEN IN PLACE FOR CLOSE TO 300 YEARS , hence the better access to government in terms of accountability. It has nothing to do with your peoples abilities at all but more so a coincidence and consequence of your history. PERIOD!

Stop spewing senseless rubbish. The reason most Nigerians in SA are involved in underworld activities is simply because of the lack of access to the mainstream. The SAffers are already struggling with taking care of their unskilled and underskilled labor, hence the latent discrimination of Black Africans because they cannot absorb the inflow.

You are receiving the unskilled and under skilled work force of Nigerians and most African countries because of your proximity and easy movement.

Most Nigerians that make it to environments that are able to integrate immigrant populations thrive and excel in all fields in which they pursue. FACT!

Word of Advice, Never discount Nigerians. We are a blessed people and everyone can see that. Our power combined as a people in AFRICA is terrifying to a lot and we are yet to realize this full potential. Look at the condition we are in yet we are able to thrive and stand out amongst other Africans

I do not want to build anything with South Africans. They are a warped people who have been around Europeans for too long and have lost a lot of their AFRICANESS and bond with their "RACE" in exchange for a pipe dream of multi-culturalism and a sol called rainbow nation state, a capitalist weapon of the world order to tame the people and allow for a more efficient exploitation of labour. I as a Nigerian stand opposed to that ideology and as such We are rivals in every sense of the word and will continue to remain such for the foreseeable future.

Your major trade partners are a legacy of your trade partners during colonial and APartheid rule. You do not trade anything with the rest of Africa and only seek to exploit it vis a vis for spring board status for foreign multianationals into the continent.
