These assembly plants are not sustainable on the long run because cost of production in Nigeria is crazy, especially because of power and importing parts. Then there is competition from the cheap fairly used market from cotonou. Even if we want to regulate the second hand market from Cotonou, customs corruption and cross border vehicle smuggling will not permit. And these manufacturers or assemblers cannot transfer the cost to us because we definitely won't buy more expensive Nigerian made cars when we can import cheaply. They will end up cutting corners to stay afloat and producing faulty or defective vehicles. I'm not sure we have and automotive regulatory or control agency in Nigeria that will enforce standards and ensure best practise in vehicle manufacturing or assembly. We should all get ready for the inevitable increase in accidents on our roads. Producing or assembling cars is not for every tom dick and harry. The size of the market in Nigeria is pushing people to do crazy things, like making cars in Nigeria!

99.9% of Labour employed in its production isn't Nigerian. But the fact that the final step of its production is being done in Nigeria is what makes it Made-In-Nigeria.

Car manufacturing belongs to the group of assembly industries. ..cars are.made by assemblage of different parts that make up the car.

Since the world is a global village and every company want profit, importion of cheap parts that cannot be sourced locally or which lical substitutes is expenses can be allowed.

Toyata is the largest car makers in the world, they have so many assembly lines in USA and Europe...if it will be cheaper for them to buy components from america, europe or back to serve the assembly unit, why not buy to save cost in other to compete effectively with major competitors

how sure are you that 99.9% Labour inpute are japanese or koreans?

A car manufacturer will employ from a country with per capital income of $3,000 (Nigeria) than the one with
$58, 000(japan) and $38, 000( south korea) respectively. even if it involve training the Nigerian staff, since they will provide low cost implications

So is everybody working at Toyota factories Japanese? Or BMW Germany does not import parts into Germany at all? Its made in Nigeria because it was assembled/manufactured on Nigerian soil although not by an. Indigenous firm, which would have been a big leap . QED.
