Introduction To Well Engineering

This 5 day course is designed for people with basic technical background who are not (or just barely) familiar with Drilling Operations and Engineering, with the aim of giving them a broad overview of the process of carrying out design, planning and drilling of a well. It starts from the basic introductory level and builds up a tempo to full knowledge. The course requires little or no basic knowledge of Well Engineering and Design. However, it requires a technical or an Engineering background to have a good appreciation. It uses lots of pictures and diagrams to explain drilling equipment and processes, and deals with lots of theoretical aspects.

o A brief introduction to petroleum geology and hydrocarbon deposition.
o History of drilling and advantages of rotary drilling.
o Drilling equipment and processes.
o Bits, Casing, Tubing, Cementing, etc.
o Drilling fluids design and formulation.
o Rotary, Circulating and Hoisting systems.
o Formation evaluation: mud logging, wireline logging, MWD/LWD, Production testing.
o Well control, blowouts, lost circulation, stuck pipe, fishing, well killing operations.
o Well completion: types, equipment, sand control, artificial lift.
o Drilling performance monitoring and optimisation.
o Drilling data management.
o Well abandonment.
o HSE in well design and drilling operations.
