Stephen Davis again: ‘Opposition stops Chibok girls rescue’ 1
BY IKENNA EMEWU, ABUJA ON OCTOBER 23, 2014 · COVER
•Warns of more Boko Haram abductions

In less than two months after he raised dust with his claims that two Nigerians, Senator Modu Sherrif, former governor of Borno State and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika sponsor Boko Haram, the acclaimed negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis has announced another alarm.

This time, he accuses opposition politicians of hindering the freedom and release of the Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in April this year.

Further to the delayed release of the girls and the reasons for it, he warned that if the girls are set free without the leaders of Boko Haram either reined in or their sponsors stopped, Nigeria should expect an endless orgy of abductions by the same group in future.

In an interview Davis granted a UK news network, Channel 4 few days ago, he stated that: “The Nigerian opposition politicians sponsoring Boko Haram have to be stopped if hundreds of local girls are to be saved.”

The credibility of the platform given to Davis was an indication that international support for his allegations is rapidly gaining acceptance. He claimed to have been frustrated by a number of unsuccessful attempts to secure the abducted girls’ release, and alleged that from the Nigerian media, he saw an undeniable connection between the Chibok girls’ fate and cutting off the funding that is Boko Haram’s lifeblood.

In particular, he emphasized the role some “senior politicians of a major opposition party are playing in channeling money from Al Qaeda to Boko Haram. ”

He argued that “these individuals are bank-rolling the group’s brutal activities to create instability ahead of the February 2015 Nigerian general election. There would be an endless cycle of evil if the Chibok girls are freed without the group’s sponsors being stopped. It would simply lead to many more young women being taken in their place.”

A uk online report noted that: “The need to tackle terrorism at its source rather than simply through military action has been major news in the UK for close to a month. Some military chiefs recently grabbed national headlines when they announced that cutting off the financing that keeps terror groups armed and dangerous is key to the overall strategy of winning the war on terror.”

Davis further cautioned that: “Tackling the moneymen behind Boko Haram must be an essential part of the West’s anti-terror approach. At the same time, those politicians implicated in the terror funding scandal must be investigated without delay. To do otherwise would mean unleashing untold trauma and devastation on hundreds more innocent Nigerian girls. To these young women and their families, the cost of further inaction would be incalculable.

Idris Deby has negtiated d release of hostages in time past. Why is ours not working?
When d news of d proposed release of d girls broke, instead of joining hands with FG towards ensuring their safe return, the first question d APC was asking was: why now? They claimed that Gej was going to use their release for campaign.

And to stop this, they're sabotaging the process. They want the girls to remain in captivity so they can use insecurity to campaign against Gej. Its very unfortunate

This is d height of desperation by opposition

God bless you jare. I was very bitter when I read that lie Mohammed was saying the time for their release is suspicious and I kept asking myself is this man sane at all? I even if the girls are released a day to the election no sane man is expected to complain as all what we want is their release

Contrary to your view ,the OPs does not name any political party but only says opposition politicians!
Who are the oppositions,if you may ask? They are from other paries since #APCNigeria is the ruling party in that state of Borno

It's amazing to see that a lot of you didn't bother to click on the Op's link to realise that what is housed there is not a link to the video or the story but just a picture of the abducted girls. Had you clicked on the link, you would have wondered what the op's true intention were and questioned if the original report had not been doctored to skew the real truth.

Anyway here is the link to the channel 4 video. Hear hear that Stephen Davies who was said to be in Abuja at the time of the interview re-iterating that Alimodu Sherif is the politician sponsoring boko haram and not the APC like this disingenuous person and sunnewsonline are trying to make us believe.

Furthermore, that the government knows the location of these girls but dragging its feet.

What link is false? You can as well click the link above yours and ascertain the truth yourself. It was clearly reported by channel4 TV that the reason the girls are not released is due to the opposition. You're just ranting because Stephen Davies did not adjust his rhetoric (like he did in the past) to appease the APC. It was clearly stated in the interview.

It's quite unfortunate.

We all got to accept the fact that these girls have suffered extreme emotional and physical trauma to merit our collective sympathy beyond Politics.

Nonetheless, I don't settle for or discuss gossips and rumours.

people with linear way of thinking are as useless as 'water inside a basket'..no matter how u explain a point, na down the drain..grin

Opposition means APC abi?
Clap for urself, go collect certificate, u don graduate..

But...

Think abt this: who has the benefit of any instability in the north? APC or PDP?

The North are the surest that may not vote for Jonathan, so, creating instability there means either: no elections in those states or no election at all..

So, who's gaining?

It's clear that a lot of people have lost use of their brains on nairaland.
This link has been posted and some brainless dolts think he talked about APC. There is no place he mentioned opposition political parties. He talked about Ali Modu Sheriff who has been hobnobbing with the president lately. He says some very powerful Nigerians are sponsors and also said opponents of GEJ are behind it. You are highly foolish to think opponents zeroes in on APC when all those fingered in the Boko Haram issue are full fledged PDP members - all the way from Ndume to Sheriff to Ihejirika.

If you still have use of your brains, you can watch the interview yourself: http://www.channel4.com/news/everybody-knows-where-boko-haram-are-hostage-negotiator and draw your own conclusions.
