Morocco will not host the 2015 Africa Cup of nations, it has emerged. Instead, the country has asked for the tournament to be shifted to 2016 to prevent the possible spread of the Ebola virus disease that has ravaged three countries in west Africa. It is evident that Caf will now need to shop for new hosts, less than two months to the start of the tournament on January 17, 2015. In a press release by the sports minister Mohammed Ouzzine, Morocco maintained its call for the tournament to be postponed to 2016, while the next tournament would hold in 2017 to enable it return to its regular odd year format. Morocco suggested that it could be done since Caf held back-to-back tournaments in 2012 and 2013, when it was shifted to the odd year. During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Morocco’s sports minister was quoted as saying: “The Kingdom has no intention of giving in to the injunctions of CAF because the health risk is too large.” Surely embarrassed by this last minute change, Caf is expected to meet on November 11 where it would announce replacement hosts for the tournament. While South Africa and Ghana have opted against hosting the tournament, Goal exclusively reported that Nigeria were interested a fortnight ago. Reports also indicate that 2010 hosts, Angola, could be a possible option. Caf would also decide on punishment for Morocco’s late no show which would be seen as a betrayal of trust seeing that the country would host the Fifa Club World Cup next month. The World Health Organisation has not expressly ruled out large gatherings as against what the Moroccan authorities have put out. Morocco’s football will be the poorer as it is expected to be banned for four years from all continental competitions as well as the payment of a huge fine. The final round of qualifying matches for the 2015 Afcon will take place on November 15 and 19 across the continent while Caf has already asked interested media to apply for accreditation to cover the tournament. source :goal.com |

As it is, no country will accept to host the tourny at this scary time. CAF should put health first before money. Even George Weah doesn't support the competition taking place next year due to the ebola crisis. Morocco should be commended for taking this bold step, the worst CAF will do is ban morocco for 2 or 4 years from their useless/corrupt competitions 1 Like |

honeric01: The club world cup won't lead to the spread of ebola. The clubs that are taking part in it aren't from ebola stricken areas.Countries like Seria Leone,Guinea and Mali can spread the disease through its fans. 2 Likes |

mikeson12: Choi, is there no ebola in Spain that Real Madrid is coming from? Were you the one that put ebola in Mali or Guinea ? who told you Seria Leone is qualifying for Nations cup? Of the 3 countries you listed. only one has a clearer possibility of going to the nations cup.. Before you type your next comment, research and have facts with you.. 1 Like |

honeric01: Spain has already contained Ebola.Liberia.Guinea and Seirra Leone might qualify for the AFCON,don't rule them out. For your information,Ebola is currently ravaging Guinea while Mali has 3 cases of Ebola at Kaye. Next time do a proper research before quoting me,take care! |
Re: Morocco Opt Out Of Hosting 2015 afcon by honeric01(m): 10:35am On Nov 09, 2014 |
mikeson12: I am sorry but you are joking.. which Spain contained Ebola? has the doctors recovered? any country with a recorded case and still in quarantine shouldn't be declared safe.. Even US are still in quarantine stage , yet soccer and basketball are being played weekly. Same with Spain, if these countries haven't stopped sporting activities, why should Mali be different? You have little knowledge on what you are talking about. Apart from Seria Leone and Guinea (likely to qualify) who won't even qualify, Mali has minimal case of Ebola and are also in the quarantine process. only 2 countries are expected to qualify from each group with one best lower, so far so good, All of the countries in top position to qualify are not in the ebola red zone. 1 Like |

honeric01: Spain has only 3 cases of Ebola right now,so it isn't a problem to them whereas countries like seirra Leone,Guinea and Liberia are filled with Ebola patients,so what are you saying? These 3 countries might qualify even if they don't qualify, their citizens will like to watch the AFCON life.Morroco did the right thing beacuse it won't be easy to check the temperature of all the fans! |

honeric01: Lol,Morrocco doesn't have the rigt to ban spectators from coming to watch the match, its a CAF event so only CAF can do it. Lol,I don't know what you want to acheive by those records you just posted,if there is someone that needs the record of ebola outbreak its definitely you cos you'v been confused from the very beginning. |

@Honeric..... Don't mind this yeye mikeson, the club world cup is holding in december and I 'm sure Real Madrid will bring a larger fans than what any other african country can afford to take to Morroco. Why can't Morroco resist playing the tournament in their country and the reported case of ebola in madrid and the number of pple in quarantine. Real Madrid is still playing in Santigo Bernabeu even with the ebola fear, even the El Classico that generate the number of largest crowd in spain took place. Morroco is only being partial, let them not hold the other competition and face FIFA's ban. I hope CAF give them a lengthy suspension like 2O to 25 years 3 Likes |

crownprince102:So you are now comparing Morocco a third world country to Spain a western European country, are u for real? You should note that Morocco was not forced to host afcon, as they bidded for it and won it so their concerns have to be taken seriously. Even south Africa that CAF was confident would replace Morocco on short notice has ruled itself out. The thing is Africans inter travel and when you have all that amount of people descending on your country, you need to be scared. Firstly, an ebola infested country doesn't have to qualify for citizens of that country to come and secondly, a senegalese who got infected while in guinea can bring it. It's complicated. The truth it's only logical to assume the risk of is higher from hosting a tournament exclusively for Africans. 2 Likes |

yoji:You said it all. Even George Weah supported Morocco on this one. The tournament should be postponed to 2016 when the outbreak ought to be over or atleast minimal. Africa has the largest infected people so we should be more careful about hosting an all African event that a World event just because Spain has a FEW case of ebola |
Re: Morocco Opt Out Of Hosting 2015 afcon by honeric01(m): 4:27pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
mikeson12: I am wasting my time, posted the record to show you countries battling with ebola, yet football matches still go on in their countries.. Since Morocco can't ban the kind of fans coming into the country, then Ebola can still get into the country when they host the Club world cup. Cant you see you are contradicting yourself? can't people from ebola infested countries come to morocco to watch the club world cup? I decided to stop wasting my time with you not until this last post. |

Re: Morocco Opt Out Of Hosting 2015 afcon by Nobody: 8:22pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
honeric01: Don't be silly. The Ebola in those countries are already under control, apart from Spain which has only 3 cases, the others are free from ebola. In Africa, ebola has already spread through Liberia, guinea and seirra Leone. One in every 50 Liberians are ebola patients. |

Re: Morocco Opt Out Of Hosting 2015 afcon by crownprince102: 9:29pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
yoji:You are very funny and unrealistic, Spain is a first world country and couldn't contain Ebola which third world country like Nigeria and Senegal has done successfully. They are western European country and couldn't find out how ebola set into their country. Spain has not recorded one case of Ebola survivor, we 've recorded more than 10 here in Nigeria a third world country. Ebola that infect a liberian is the same with the one that infect a spanish, Ebola knows not ur tribe, race or nationality. I 'm not saying Afcon should hold but I 'm only saying If club world cup is holding, why can't Afcon hold, this is a racist act from our african brothers. Madrid has Ebola cases, yet they are coming, or are u telling me Guineans and Liberians has been deprived of buying CWC ticket. Both tournament has the same probability let's be realistic and stop ur weird and partial thinking. Wise up 1 Like |
