Romance takes many shapes and forms, and in the case of a young man in China, his idea of romance is to woo the girl of his dreams by buying 99 iPhone handsets. Now before you think that this is a man with a lot of money who can easily splash that much cash, think again. Apparently he spent two years’ worth of salary just to buy all the iPhones.

The goal, according to a report from The Nanfang, was to arrange the iPhones in a heart shape (as pictured above) and impress her enough to accept his proposal. This was done on Singles’ Day in China which is on the 11th of November. So, what was her answer? Well unfortunately for that young man, her answer was reportedly no.

We’re not sure what this young man will be doing with the 99 iPhones that he just bought, but hopefully he will be able to resell them and get some of his money back. We can’t imagine what it would be like to be in his shoes after having splashed so much cash on the devices, and have your friends and colleagues stand around you hoping to capture the magical moment when she says yes.

That being said this isn’t the first geeky proposal we’ve seen. In the past we’ve seen some couples use mediums like video games, such as World of Warcraft, to help pop the question.
