attacked Chibok, a town in Borno State where over 200 students were abducted on April 14, 2014.

The sect was said to have captured the town after a siege of about 24 hours, which started on late Thursday evening until it was finally captured on Friday evening with the sect's black flags hoisted all over the town.

A member of the youth vigilante group, Bukar Idris told our correspondent on phone in Maiduguri that after leaving Mubi on Thursday morning, the sect went to Chibok and laid siege to the town from Thursday evening and finally captured it on Friday evening.

He said: "As I am talking to you, the insurgents have driven many residents of Chibok away and have hoisted their infamous flag at strategic locations in the town."

He said: "All I can tell you now is that many people were killed and many have fled the town which is presently occupied by the insurgents."

Some of the fleeing residents of the town alleged that the sect members stormed the community on Thursday evening, shooting indiscriminately, "they (insurgents) rode into the town in a convoy of about three hilux vehicles barely an hour after military troops left."

"We started hearing gunshots and shouts of Allah Akbar (Allah is great) as soon as they entered the town. We had to take to our heels." Maina Abga said.

He said the insurgents also burnt down some houses in the town.

Chibok, is located in the southern part of troubled Borno state and has gone into the folklore after the abduction of about 200 schoolgirls from their dormitory on April 14.

It was also gathered that the sect also attacked Gwoza on Thursday killing sixteen persons.

It was gathered that: "Many of the residents of communities behind the Mandara Hills who fled to the mountains, were again pursued by the insurgents on Thursday and sixteen people were killed."
