WhatsApp has released an update to its Android app that includes an option to disable the much-criticised read receipts feature.Not every WhatsApp member was thrilled about the Read Receipts feature. The app always showed one tick mark when you sent a message, which changed to two grey ticks when it was delivered. Now, the app shows two blue ticks when the recipient has read your message.
Here's how to get rid of those annoying blue ticks in WhatsApp - but if you do this, then you won't be able to see the receipts either. If you want to check when other people see your messages, then you need to allow them to see read receipts from you.

The messaging app's website is offering an update for Android users to version 2.11.444. After the update, you will be given an option to enable or disable Read Receipts.

Download the latest (version 2.11.444) WhatsApp apk from the official website. (follow this link to download http://www.whatsapp.com/android/)
Now go to Settings > Account > Privacy.
Uncheck Read receipts.

Remember, if you do this, then you won't be able to see the receipts either. If you want to check when other people see your messages, then you need to allow them to see read receipts from you.

Blue tick or no blue tick, you can't force me to respond to ur msg. Think is lack of creativeness that is causing all these, unlike wechat and BBM.

But to be sincere, I don't really find it annoying because all other IM apps have this feature in common as well. For example when you message on BBM, its status shows "D" sign meaning the server has acknowledged your message and it has been delivered to the intended party, when the message is read, the status changes to "R".
