The Orange Island project involves the dredging of sand from the bed of the Lagos Lagoon, reclamation of a 150 hectare (1,500,000 sqM) island, construction of an access land bridge and infrastructure to service the island. The Project will eventually be a fully serviced, community located 450 meters off the headland of Lekki Phase 1.

The project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative conceptualized in the original master plan of Lagos State, Nigeria. In line with the Lagos State Government’s goal to transform Lagos into a more organized and structured Mega City. The project will be delivered in two phases:

The Island will be situated some 450 kilometres off the Lekki Phase 1 headland next to the existing Lekki foreshore reclamation project. To be located 450km from the northern headland of Lekki Phase 1, and will be approximately twice the size of the Lekki Foreshore.

Dredging started September 2014 and will take a total of 60 months to complete. Stages:
Dredging and reclamation 24 months
Stabilization 12 months
Infrastructure and amenities 24 months

The layout of the Island will comprise four main schemes made up of residential, commercial, services and recreation/sports zones. The services provided will include electricity, water and sewerage system. The Island will be accessed via a dual carriage way located at the end of Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1.



World renowned Dredging Giant, Nigeria Van Oord Nigeria Limited are the dredging contractors, charged with the dredging for the emergence of the Island. Van Oord has handled several projects including the Palm Island Dubai as well as several projects in Lagos, Rivers and Delta States.

The company responsible for management of Orange Island is the Orange Island Development Company (OIDC). A special purpose vehicle set up specifically for this purpose. The sponsors behind the project are FW Dredging Company. FW Dredging Limited: FW Dredging Limited is one of Nigeria’s foremost indigenous dredging companies. FW Dredging has been involved in some of the largest and most complex dredging projects in Nigeria. The company was involved in the massive reclamation of land for the construction of Yenagoa the capital city of Bayelsa State in the oil rich Niger-Delta region of Nigeria, The company was also major contractor for the complex dredging works required to create the largest man-made lakes at Lakowe Golf Estate and also the lake at Adiva Estate, Lekki in Lagos, Nigeria.
