If you don't abuse it, it can be very useful in handling some situations. I don't give the full silent treatment sha, will respond to necessary questions concerning other important issues with the barest minimum of words in reply. With regards to the issue that brought on the silent treatment I won't give an opinion anymore, usually say stuff like "I don't know" or "do whatever you think is right"

If am the one receiving the treatment I usually apologise for whatever and if you continue then you are on your own, will give you space and wait you out.

It could be good or bad but I think it's necessary.
Truetalk. It's indeed essential too but shuldnt @ all be abused. I rem vividly, way bk wen my immediate elder bro got me cross. I gave him d silent treatment. Omo, he didnt find it funny . Until he did d needful .... An apology. Then he returned to my gud book.

The Silent treatment; Yes I do give some people that cheesy . Because thatz the best way to treat the person wahala that moment.
Itz not as if I will keep the damn quiet without saying a word. Nope, i will communicate with you but in a scanty way.

My opinion is, do it when necessary but at the same time , dont overdo it. Overdo fit double the problem grin

@Kachisbarbie......Silent treatment givers are emotional blackmailers.

One common thing that I have noticed about silent treatment givers is their inability to receive just 1 minute of silent treatment from their partners.
They will do everything humanly possible to make you talk, they will poke you, they will do all manner of things even irritating things to make you talk and the more they do this the more offensive they become. They would rather cover all their misdeeds with playful banters instead of sitting down and talk about the issue at hand. But as soon as it becomes them at the other end, they will stone up and become as cold as anything and expect you to beg until their ego is well massaged and they will turn around and behave as if they've done one great favor for you......All na wayo. cheesy

They are indirectly manipulating you - Because immediately after then whatever they do that doesn't go down well with you would get a natural waiver because no man in his right senses would want to stir up the hornet's nest after all that silent treatment and the begging for peace that followed.

I repeat silent treatment is immature and childish and they can be manipulative - And if you try it with me ,I'll personally treat you like you never existed until you come back to your senses and act like human. grin

70% percent of girls arguement neva ends in 10minutes. Me i hate arguing with girls coz i dont know how to. I easily forgt the points i wanna make to win the arguement, simply because i dnt take it as a big deal. This is when the silent treatment might come in. cheesy

You aware men desperately hates women that rants....

So, once men give them 'a word' to keep quiet, they feel insulted and decide to go all silent until he 'apologise'...

Silent treatment is good for the ranting type of women, for women that are specialist in deviating from the issue of discourse just to avoid the blame at all cost.

sure I am aware...hehe

The silent treatment works in a specific way - done too much or too long, it becomes counter-productive...but done just right, it can calm one's nerves.

Silent treatment is bad in every way... I have a male friend that does that a lot...and it really pisses me off..he won't reply my massages on viber or what's app or anywhere and won't pick my call, and if he manages to reply it would just be a text that said " I'm busy".
Once I did it to him over an issue we had, and he got so furious and sent a message , where he had rambled on over 11 pages of total bvllshit explaining why It should be only him that has the right to do such.
.. Meanwhile Currently, he is giving me another silent treatment since 4days now over something I'm yet to find out about.. U can imagine that sort of thing.. he doesn't know how fed up I am with the relationship and I will seriously be cutting away from him soon.

I agree. I do this, and it works. It's not like I plan it out, but I prefer retreating to arguing, and I need my space.

The longest SL treatment (full) I've been in lasted almost a year, and it was with one of my siblings. But I can only tolerate that one in small doses anyway...

A year with a sibling? That must have been a serious problem.

I can go months without speaking to my siblings but not because of a problem. The guys are not the calling type but the girls do keep in touch more often.

Silent treatment:.
It is a form of sanction that involves ignoring a particular individual, neither speaking to that person nor responding to his or her words.

__ We all have someone around us( a partner, spouse, family member) who is fond of doing this or possibly we are the one that gives people the 'treatment'.

Personally, I don't think it's right, I feel issues should be resolved ASAP, even if anyone should give the silent treatment...maximum of 5minutes to cool off and get your speech together...lol.

What do you think?
Does it help/affect a family/relationship/marriage?
.

its immature, irritating & bad. it spoils what is meant to be a good relationship, crushes it until dere is nothing left to save in it & brings it to abrupt end.

it can weaken & kill marriage. it also gives room for infidelity cos it makes d love u have for dat person to diminish wit d lack of communication whilst anoda person is giving u d attention u so desire...

They think only about themselves and no one else - Yes ,pride is a major fault they also share in common.

Once you learn how to be resolute and ignore them completely without any show of remorse they'll always come back to their senses.

They are nothing but manipulative cry babies.

Silent treatment is filled with the worst hidden drama of all time you ever imagine.

Lemme give you an example; You had an argument with your boyfriend and he decided to give you the silent treatment for some couple of hours but as soon as your sisters showed up he's all smiles and warm and the moment you try to engage him in a conversation he shuts down like a treatment plant leaving everybody around to be guessing what crime you've committed to deserve such public rejection from someone that's suppose to make you happy.

What impression is he trying to create before your siblings? and how will they perceive you and even himself ,I hope you're aware that a little act of perception can make you a demon instantly in the eyes of people that you think they knew you better especially if they have some reservations about your personality.

I still maintain that silent treatment is immature, childish and they are manipulative set of selfish people that would prefer to see you being battered emotionally than say it out and give you that peace of mind you deserve in every relationship.

You can only disagree with me on this if you've never been loved by somebody or you never loved your partner in the first place.
Which normal person would be happy to torment the people they love so dearly emotionally ,even when they beg for your attention.?

I'm not a psychologist.
I've dated a perfect silent treatment giver and because of the love and passion we had for each other ,the silent treatment would always lead to a fight and my Mom got involved at a point and I was trying to explain to her that she made me hit her but she told me plain simple that she's manipulating me and I would end up being a woman beater.

She told me to learn how to walk away or walk out completely or remain a woman beater - Because she was going to make me one ,it's just a matter of time I'll get use to it and it becomes a normal thing and the name will stick......."woman beater''

After tolerating her for sometime , I was surprised I called it off and I realized what a burden I've been carrying all this while.

Just imagine getting a silent treatment from someone and you decided to take a walk and cool off allowing her to come back to her senses, the same person holds you down on your cloth ,lock the door and still continued with the silent treatment - If you're not man enough you'd be forced to retaliate with physical force to free yourself from her stranglehold or take the key back and that's a sad way to go.
