The Inspector General of Police, Abba Sulaiman may have given orders for the arrest of Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Daily Trust has learnt.

Sources told Daily Trust a similar order has been handed down to the Department of State Security (DSS.)
The orders were given following the fracas that broke out at the National Assembly on Thursday where members of the House of Representatives were confronted by armed security personnel who threw canisters of teargas at the speaker and other lawmakers to stop them from accessing the parliament building.

The speaker and some of his colleagues who supported him beat the security cordon and later held a brief plenary thereby stopping some members in their tracks who had gathered protected by scores of Police and DSS operatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against the leadership of the House.

Sources at the Police headquarters revealed that the Police chief gave the order for Tambuwal's arrest after a meeting with Vice President Namadi Sambo and the National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.

"I can confirm to you that the order for his arrest has been given today (Friday). The signal from the IG's office specifically directed the FCT and Sokoto State commissioners of Police to serve Tambuwal with notice of invitation to the force headquarters and if he resists, he should be arrested immediately, “the source revealed.
"The involvement of Sokoto CP was because the Speaker was sighted in Sokoto on Friday where he picked the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship form for the coming elections. It was assumed that he was out of Abuja as such other police divisions were involved in the matter."

Sources at the meeting in Villa indicate that both the Vice President and the NSA chastised the Police boss for the failure of his men to prevent Speaker from entering the national assembly premises.

"The NSA was particularly angry and told the IG in clear terms that he doesn't know his job. He said how did the Speaker and the members break a cordon organised by the FCT Police commissioner. The NSA then made it clear that the Police authorities must rectify the anomalies or they will face the consequences. The IG then said Tambuwal will be arrested for questioning.”

Tambuwal disobeyed a court order which declared his sit vacant.

The police are enforcing trespassing and impersonation laws.

Mogidi:

Because he's no longer a member of the house, he should be arrested for impersonating being HOR member.

You mean he's no longer a Member of the HoR?! When was his seat declared vacant?! When did the court order him to vacate the House?! Guy, stop being sentimental joor.

In case you don't know, the Senate President referred to him as the Speaker today, only guys who are bereft of ideas like you believe that his seat has been declared vacant. Those ones who know the rule/law know that he still remains the Speaker of the HoR!

Below is what David Mark [PDP] said today:

Mark added that both the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal and the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, had already pleaded with him on behalf of the lawmaker over his unruly behaviour.

Providing an insight into what transpired inside the lower chamber, Mark said his visit to the Green Chamber, was “to ascertain the safety of Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and his colleagues having received reports that canisters of tear gas were targeted at them.”

He said, “I also went to confer with Mr. Speaker on the need to suspend plenary in both Chambers in order to restore sanity to an environment that had turned restive and becoming uncontrollable.

www.punchng.com/news/ive-forgiven-the-lawmaker-that-assaulted-me-mark/

Who's Mark referring to as the "Speaker"?! Can a non-member of the HoR be referred to as "Mr Speaker" by the [PDP] Senate President?!

If Shekau and other boko haram touts were hunted like this, we would have known more peace in this country.

Using tax payers money to hunt and intimidate opponents is the hallmark of dictators. I wonder what they would have said if a Buhari was the one unleashing mayhem on his political opponents.

Are you expecting the president to go in search of Shekau, why not criticise those whose job it is to find Shekau?

Tambuwal is obviously giving some people sleepless night. Same was done for Sanusi before he became an Emir anyway. This is just some silly show of "temporary" power.

A lot of pawns are going to be sacrificed on the Nigerian political chessboard as we approach 2015 General Elections.

So whose job is it to go after shekau?... I guess it is my job because I am the the chief security officer of the nation right?...

Obviously it is not the presidency's job to go after shekau but it is the presidency's job to arrest the speaker?

Good move. Tambuwal should first serve six months imprisonment for assaulting the police. Then he will charged with breaking and entering coupled with constituting public nuisance.
