Two female suicide bombers denoted a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near the busy Monday Market in Maiduguri.

A third suicide bomber was reportedly killed before she could denote bomb.

Abba Aji Kalli, the Borno state co-ordinator of the Civilian-Joint Task Force, said that the two teenage girls dressed in full hijab blew themselves up Tuesday morning, killing at least 30 people.

The attack targeted the popular Monday Market area and the sound of the blast could be heard around the city centre, with thick plumes of black smoke billowing out of the market.


The bomb went off at a place that has huge concentration of people buying and selling.

Witnesses told the journalists the bomb was hidden in a pickup tricycle, popularly known as Jega.

“The blast happened at One-Way road that leads to Bulabulin, adjacent the Monday Market,” trader Sabiu Aliyu said.

According to the Daily Trust about four people were seen with grievous injuries as one of them had one of his legs chopped off while the other three were seriously bleeding. Some residents say on Twitter:

“A powerful bomb exploded at One Way road, adjacent (to) the Monday Market (area) around 11 am (1000 GMT) today,” said a senior police officer, who asked anonymity.

Market trader Usman Babaji told journalists the attacker concealed the bomb in a motorised rickshaw, which are popular throughout the country.

However, while the unrest in the North-eastern region of Nigeria continues, the Nigerian Military chiefs a while ago arrived at the Senate for briefing on state of emergency and the invasion of the national assembly during the week.

Another bomb explosion occurred on Tuesday morning, at the busy Monday Market close to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) building in Maiduguri, Borno State capital,has left at least 18 people dead with 55 others severely injured.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan while speaking in London at the opening of the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) said the Federal Government is winning the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.

Yesterday he visited Ndjamena, capital of Chad, yesterday, November 24, 2014, Monday, for another meeting with President Idris Deby Itno over insurgency.
