Maybe next they'll usher in 5,000 and 10,000 notes to help us cope.

Let it fall even below $30, make our yeye politicians and unserious Nigerians get sense. The price of oil has been over $100 for years now, far above our budget benchmark yet no meaningful savings for the rainy days. Some unscrupulous elements will come here and start shouting GEJ till 2019.

They declared few months ago that we were Africa's largest economy with indices based mostly on non oil sectors of the economy, few weeks later we were told to prepare for Austerity measures because oil prices went down.
At least the world is seeing their blatant declarations of falsehood

The whole money made over the years from excess crude gains should have been enough to diversify the economy, the Nigerian government is never prepared for anything. Even as Champions of Africa in soccer, they weren't prepared to appear and defend the trophy.

The annoying part is that the effects will all fall back on the poor masses.

The same oil now is what we can't even refine on our own, so we will sell oil cheap and import expensive refined oil.

God will judge ooooooo !!!!!

The country economy heavily depends on oil & petroleum. Also for other industries in Nigeria oil & petroleum is the big boon. But this should be taken as a lesson as well that depending only on one industry will not help the economy in a long run. The country needs other small, medium and big businesses.

Am telling you.for goodness sake we were warned on this over five years ago and advised to harness other revenue sources such as agriculture but I guess the greed and selfishness of our politicians didn't enable them see beyond their nose tips

FG, states share $2.7bn from Excess Crude Account
OCTOBER 23, 2014

The country's revenue fell by N99.55bn in the month of September, thereby causing the three tiers of government on Wednesday to share N2.7bn that should have been transferred to the Excess Crude Account.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Otunla, said the technical meeting of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee that held earlier had suggested the sharing of the $2.7bn, which ought to have been transferred to the ECA that was established to provide a buffer for the country in the face of fluctuations in international crude oil prices.

Not satisfied with the revenue, which accrued to the Federation Account for the month of September, the Commissioners of Finance from the 36 states withdrew from the meeting and engaged in consultations for a few minutes before returning to the general FAAC meeting.

Upon their return to the meeting, they rejected the amount available for sharing and demanded for additional augmentation from the ECA.

Nigeria says too much boom time oil savings spent on state governors
Nov 27, 2014

Nigeria's finance minister said on Thursday that a significant portion of the billions of dollars drained from the oil savings account over the past two years was distributed to powerful governors instead of being saved for a rainy day.

Nigeria, Africa's biggest oil producer, is grappling with financial difficulties owing to a 30 percent fall in the price of oil since June, which has added pressure on the government's already depleted fiscal buffers.

The central bank devalued the naira by 8 percent on Tuesday because it was running out of forex reserves with which to defend the currency.

The Excess Crude Account (ECA) had around $9 billion in December 2012, but it has since fallen to around $4 billion, Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala noted in a speech to capital market authorities. Most of the falls occurred during a period of record high oil prices, when oil savings are supposed to accrue.
